Unlike most people, I actually like doing interviews. I get to talk with people, meet them, and share ideas. A good interview is more like a conversation than a quiz and more often than not I learn something...even if it's only a new view on an old idea.
However, after today's interview, I am reminded of some sage advice someone gave me a long time ago: be careful what you put on your resume as sometime, somewhere, someone is going to call you on it. I know it's tempting to exaggerate; the gods know we all want to do it. However, we have to be careful.
I interviewed someone today whose documentation suggested they were more qualified for my position than I am. Since I am leaving, I was actually happy for my soon to be ex-employer as it would get them a good replacement. However, it didn't take long to figure out he was exaggerating on most of the technical and all of the non-technical testing points. Turns out not a good fit for this place on any level. Unfortunately, once I realized he had exaggerated on his docs and was attempting to BS his way through the interview, I admit I sort of lost interest. I tried to be patient, but it's tough when the interviewee is clearly making stuff up.
Sure hope it wasn't as painful for him as it seemed. :-S The gods know I tried to make it less so.
