Selenium: Current jars important

I had an issue with Selenium and Firefox3 yesterday. It just wouldn't start up and run an instance of Firefox. When Selenium runs, it alters your settings for the particular browser you are using such that it can fire a proxy server on your local host. This enables Selenium to interact with the browser in a way not otherwise really possible. Interestingly, most browsers by default want to stop this behaviour. Anyway, Selenium could fire an instance of the browser and attempt to edit the settings...

Java: First Impressions

I've recently started working in Java to support our testing solution at work (Selenium). So far, it it hasn't been too tough to adapt my C# experience (remember, I am just getting started..I know the differences will soon smack me in the eye), and it's pretty sweet. I did find there is a lack of good instructional books on the subject (or so it seems to me), but I did end up with Head First Java as a starting point. The book doesn't seem to dig too much into detail so far, but that suits me fine...

New Job: Day one

I am working on finishing day one at my new job. Those of you who know what I am doing will appreciate some of the humour implicit in these statements, I think. - That little voice in the back of my head is definitely saying "Am I a really doing this for a living?" It's not a big deal, and it is completely ok. Really. I don't mind it a bit. I just keep finding it a little surreal. - It is a tomb here. No lights on and no one talks to speak of. That's ok, too. Just gotta find a desk lamp for those...

My Last Day at current job

I am here to pack up my last few things, grab a few files off the computer, go to lunch, and say bye. Nothing much more I can say about it, except I go to what I hope is a better place. Wish me luck

AC/DC Show: Shoot To Thrill (mostly)

First off (Since I am likely to get hate e-mail over the title of this post), let me say I am a huge fan. I saw them for the first time on Nov. 16, 1983 It was a fantastic show, and the first real concert of my life. It was arena rock at it's finest, at what I consider to be the apex of genre. This is my perspective when evaluating last night's show. I still enjoy the heck out of Angus Young's playing and he is a strong influence on my electric guitar playing (my acoustic...not so much). The show...

curriculum vitae: Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Unlike most people, I actually like doing interviews. I get to talk with people, meet them, and share ideas. A good interview is more like a conversation than a quiz and more often than not I learn something...even if it's only a new view on an old idea. However, after today's interview, I am reminded of some sage advice someone gave me a long time ago: be careful what you put on your resume as sometime, somewhere, someone is going to call you on it. I know it's tempting to exaggerate; the gods know...

Movin' On: When it's time, it's time

This is actually a late post, but figured I should go ahead and catch my blog up on my life. (incidentally, I find that being an active twitter user sorta hurts my regular blog as I am usually micro-blogging as I go and rarely go back to the blog for a long-winded post. Either than means I rarely have anything worth saying at length or I am easily distracted, I guess) In one week, I am leaving my current employer for another. Sometimes, it is time to go and do other things. This seems to be one of...

Fitness Update

I had my BF percentage done today at the gym, and the results were done. My weight loss stats for the last 12 weeks: 16 pounds 6 percent BF. My calcs suggest I've lost approx. 13.5 pounds of fat and loss a couple of muscle (inevitable when losing weight). My total to date is 75 pounds, although I've no idea how much fat I've lost out of that. I can only imagine, though, how much it represents. I still make the gym 5 times a week and this is in addition to playing ice hockey once or twice...and more...

I can be hackerz?

***EDIT: PLEASE NOTE! My interest in this subject is purely for ethical reasons. I've no interest in hacking for another reason than to try and protect the companies I work for from such attacks. **** Been sort of interested in the ethical hacking area lately since I've been doing some of it for work. It's nice to be exposed to something new at work every once in awhile. During my exploration, I realized it would be handy to have a good reference on the subject. I found what appears to be a good...
