No, I am not 50 years old (not even close). I have at this point, assuming my scale is not lying to me, lost 50 pounds. That's 10 - 5 pound bags of sugar or one bucket of lard (most appropriate imagery there). I work out several times a week, I do tai chi, I am often outside working in my vegetable garden, I mountain bike, and I am preparing to start playing hockey again (stupid, but hey I never claimed to be smart...just need a few more skating sessions to make sure I really remember how to skate). 6 months ago when I started, I couldn't have imagined I was going to do all these things.
The beauty of it is that I haven't done anything crazy. I've not tried a strange diet (The "Cabbage soup" diet comes to mind) and I've not been taking drugs (unless my Fish oil counts). I've simply continued to eat smart and get my butt off the couch or out from behind the keyboard. Now, the trade-off is that I've not been doing quite as much hobbyist development (almost none, really), but I feel better than I've felt in ages. I've started eating and working out habits that I truly believe I can maintain for rest of my life. Ultimately, this is far more important that slaving away at my keyboard. I still work on some hobby code, though...my WoW time has dwindled down pretty badly, though.
Anyway, I won't continue to hammer on this. 50 pounds seems like quite the milestone, 'specially since I only have about 25 more to go before I'll be happy. The trick to this, though, is that I've already kicked arse; the next 25 pounds could take the rest of my life and I wouldn't care. Yay me. :-)
