I saw the new Indy film last night. I was so excited. I love the original 3 (even the less than awesome second one), and have watched them oh-so many times. I used to think it was about the coolest thing...except for the Star Wars movies. My expectations for this movie were high, yet I didn't dare believe it would be great and amazing and all I can say is....
It is a very good Indy film. It was pretty standard Indy film fare, and it was good. Make no mistake; I liked this movie. In fact, I liked it a lot. It just didn't hit me as hard in some places as I wanted. I wanted the same rush and excitement I get (nostalgia?) from watching the old ones, and I realize that isn't fair. This isn't the old ones; this is the new one and it's irrational to think it is anything else. Yet, I can't help being a little disappointed on this one issue.
Anyway, the story is pretty cool, and pretty logical. Some of the loose ends from the prior three are explained well, if a little quickly, but hey, who needs great detail and solid logic in an Indy film? It was probably best to gloss over those things and get on to the action for which we all came.
My only real complaint with the film is that it starts with sort of a lurch, and with Ford looking very much like he was trying to find the character of Indy in a person who seems to have more in common with Jack Ryan. I thought it was almost like seeing someone who looks like Indy but doesn't seem to be Indy.
However, one great thing to recommend the movie. There were a couple of times that I looked up and realized I was in a theatre. You probably know what I mean, and if you don't, I pity you. :-) If you do know what I mean, you'll know how cool this is and how cool some parts of the movie are.
Oh...btw, some jerkoff sitting next to me was actually attempting to hold a conversation with what I would assume was his wife at a normal volume. He was like in his 50s, but still unbelievably rude. I explained to him that he needed to stop that crap right now. Then, he took his shoes and socks off. I was stunned. When did it become vogue to see who could be the best at pretending they are in their living room???
