QTP: Finally!!!

I am finally being allowed to do what I was hired to do...write automated tests.

I can hardly believe it.

We finally got the major project I was heading up to a point of completion that I could roll off and let someone else lead it. As a result, my boss decided now is the time to start the automation we've always wanted. I was told my time will be "50%" automation, and I know what that usually means, so let's see how it really turns out. I do know that I've done nothing but write code this week, building some pieces of some of our core applications. Pretty sweet.

A big thanks goes to my old buddies from an empolyer ago. They sent me function libraries I wrote while I worked there, and I am benefiting from some good refactoring on their part. I have, in turn, refactored their refactoring....which has produced some pretty cool stuff. Some vbscript methods to handle disaster recovery, and better browser management are a couple of the things I am getting together right now. Also, I am not being directed to keep the solution "tool-based". Since I am running the automation project, I can be as creative as I want to be. That opens all kinds of possibilities. Of course, a lot of how much I can do will depend on my management giving me time to build it right. I fear they will want it right now and I'll be forced to build crap. I am going to fight tooth and nail to avoid this, though.

So, for the first time ever, I come to work, put my headphones on, go head's down...and look up and it time to go home.

I don't know if this will last, but it has been a nice week.

Congrats Buddy! I'm glad to hear that at least one of us is getting use out of those libraries since I'm now up to my eyeballs in a MASSIVE manual test project. Feel free to let me know if you need anything more.

And what's this about improved code? Anything we could make use of?
