Apress Books: eBook of the day deal

Apress is offering an eBook of the day for $10 on their website everyday. Some of them aren't too cool, but some aren't too bad. A good way to get a useful book cheap. Today's, for example, is on GDI+. I am not saying the books rock everyday, but they are worth checking out.

QC in .Net?
Sometimes, you just have to get get it done. I have gotten sick of all the TONS of documents being generated on requirements for the project on which I am working. I am required to be a manual tester, and I am already pretty tired of that. Then, the requirements started coming in....OMG! Being a diligent tester (and for traceability), I have been entering those requirements in Quality Center. It's just gotten to be a big job, so I fired up Visual Studio, determined to ease my burden. I wanted something ......

Ok, I am a big goof...
So, wanna know how to drive me crazy? Here's one way: I started up my VS2008 installation, and started a new C# project. I've not played with 2008 much yet, so was giving it the "once over". I wanted to include a shortcut to the System.IO, so I attempted to use the using System.IO. It didn't work. The using statement wasn't recognized, and I couldn't get the System.IO to show in my intellisense. I was thinking WTF??? I thought that somehow 2008 had changed where and how we indicate such shortcuts. ......

QTP: Improving script execution speed
Someone posted asking for some general ideas on how to improve script execution. I don't have access to their code, and therefore can't address anything specific in their code, but here are some general ideas on how to improve QTP speed: Remove the setting in options that allows the cursor to follow the execution. This is actually pretty costly. If you aren't debugging, chances are you don't need it. Get rid of the active window. Don't use it! It looks pretty, but really increase memory and processing ......

Look what I am reduced to.....
For the past two weeks, I have been writing manual test cases. Our manual team's workload has not allowed for the freedom of time to allow me to do automation as I was supposed to do. So far, there is no end in sight, either. Whilst I don't mind helping out and realize this isn't the end of the world, I wasn't hired to spend 46 hours in a week writing test cases in Quality Center based on some of the worst requirements I have ever seen. Ah, well....beats being on the road, I guess.... Right???? Actually, ......

Geekin' out with old books
I have been re-reading the Thomas Covenant books tread many years ago as a child. It seems odd to refer to myself as a child, but I suppose I mean it in ways other than age. I guess I was 15 or 16, and at the time I certainly didn't think I was all that much a child. No, I meant child in the sense that I saw the world through a child's eyes. It has been most fascinating to see what stands out to me now that didn’t so much then. The character of Covenant always intrigued me, and yet, I was rather ......
