ASP.Net 2.0: WebParts

The book I have on the subject of ASP.Net 2.0 makes a big deal about WebParts. They seem very powerful, and they remind me of DotNetNuke in some visual ways (if there are nothing alike, please forgive my ignorance).

I was just wondering if anyone has used these. I asked some of the Web ppl I know about it, and none of them are very familiar with them. I can certainly see how you could build a very powerful page with them.

WebParts are huge in the Sharepoint world...and although they've become available in the regular ASP.NET world, I don't think they caught on with the same sort of popularity.

I mean, at their heart they're just user controls that users have the ability to maneuver on the screen. So in certain applications that would have huge benefits, but for many I don't know that there are any common requirements that would require using Web Parts (unless its a user-defined type portal application where content can be arranged)
