For the record, I got the version for the Wii. So far, I really love the game. It's pretty slick, and very well produced. The song selection is good, but quite a bit older than I would have expected (lots of 70s era tunes). However, there are some things that seem worth noting in particular: 1) The game is very precise. The PS2 version would allow you to be a bit sloppy on your timing. Much more sensitive is the Wii GHIII. 2) The easy mode (I always start here) now has an encore. 3) The Boss Battles...

I was looking for a hosting solution for some educational ASP.Net development (see previous posts), and signed up for the MS Live small business option since it was free. Well, it is, but it doesn't allow for you to use your own pages. You must use their tools to build your pages if you want the free service. I don't really have any issue with this, but it wasn't what I wanted. As a result, I decided I didn't want to use the service and I won't. Ah, well, I figured....and found ASP Spider instead....

A comrade at work recently turned me onto ASP Spider which is a free hosting service for ASP.Net. They support MS Access, .Net 2.0, SQLExpress, MySQL, and tons of other other features. Now bear in mind, this is an educational site, and not going to be your next ecommerce provider. It is provided free of charge to developers who need an environment to practice and develop ASP.Net solutions without having to pay money for them. The tools for ASP.Net 2.0 in VS 2005 are darn cool, I must say. Makes administering users and their roles much easier than ever before. I like the process so far. However, one little glitch: if you have configured your site recently and then want to publish locally, make sure that the ASP.Net development server is properly stopped. If not, the publish will fail, saying that the db associated with your site is currently in use. Something like: The process cannot access the file 'c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SecureS...

Code Camp 3.0 went off well in Charleston, SC as expected this Saturday. Had a great time speaking, as I always do, meeting people, and reconnecting with other geeky developer folk. Some random thoughts: Sure was sorry that my hero, Bill Ryan couldn't make it. Apparently, he was just deathly ill. It did afford me an opportunity to speak to his lady on the phone. CSLA. A great product that does so many things so well. I won't expound upon how much I like it at the moment, but I always feel like I should say something positive about it before I point out something odd. I have a standard DataGridView in a WinForm application. I have a Root object (which children and grandchildren, although this isn't relevant). I am well on my voyage into C#. So far, not too bad. I was sent this comparison page (Thanks, MattP) that has made the transition fairly easy. However, C# does have a few quirks to which I am getting used. Most notably, I am fighting with the intellisense all the time. I think it's funny. I am used to VB which is pretty forgiving about stuff. I'll actually be mid-line in VB and think "Shucks! Forgot something". I can usually just go fix whatever. C# seems to really hate when I do that. The intellisense...

The book I have on the subject of ASP.Net 2.0 makes a big deal about WebParts. They seem very powerful, and they remind me of DotNetNuke in some visual ways (if there are nothing alike, please forgive my ignorance). I was just wondering if anyone has used these. I asked some of the Web ppl I know about it, and none of them are very familiar with them. I can certainly see how you could build a very powerful page with them
