I was directed to a post recently involving a person being arrested at a Circuit City. It's a good read, and I find myself definitely on the side of the gentleman arrested. I constantly warn people of this sort of thing, and I, myself, have done similar things several times....but not yet arrested.
I guess I am troubled by the fact that:
1) The store doesn't appear to know the law.
2) The store felt that physically detaining someone whilst not willing to make any accusation.
3) The officer in this case didn't appear to be fully informed on this law.
These three things trouble me. But, you know what troubles me more? All the comments of the people who make it clear they don't have any value for their rights or their freedom. It's sad. I spent 12 years of my life (prior to injury) defending the rights of us all, and many of these people clearly have no appreciation of them.
Freedom does not usually die in a great explosion, but is killed day by day, small right by small right.
