The 100th Post!!!!!!
Well, here I am at the 100th post on my blog. It's taken me over a year to get here, sticking to interesting (I hope), meaningful posts. I didn't pad my posts with just anything that occurred to me. No, I tried to limit myself to real questions, topics, and answers. As a result, I have been trying to find something significant, powerful, or interesting to say for my 100th. So far, I've had very litte luck with it. So, instead, I am just simply going to pat myself on the back for a good job well done, ......

VSTS: Ask and thou shalt receive
So, there I was talking to my VP at the coffee machine (we have this instant coffee machine from heck....Flavia?) and he asked me what I've been up to lately. I discussed my work, but also mentioned that I'd done code of my sessions was on nUnit. I mentioned that I sure wish I could have commented more on VSTS' testing tools, but alas, I am but a poor Software Tester/Amatuer Game Dev...and I've neither the money nor need for it. I am currently reading a MS book on it (more like a 200+ ......

Game Dev: Undo moves
I was just introduced to a novel approach for game development: using a Stack. Those of you who have known this for ages are going to probably chuckle at my expense, and it's well-warranted. I confess that although I'd heard of them before, I had never made the connection between a stack and an undo cache before. However, it's simply perfect for it. You can store the moves the player makes in the stack using Push. When you want to back up/undo, simply use Pop to get the last move out. I was pretty ......

QTP: Using XML files
I saw a question in the MIC forums today about how to get at specific data located in an XML file. The user was wondering how she could get at in a hierarchy. She was loading her file, but not as an XML file. I gave her a good example, and here's the key: It's really pretty easy: Dim oXML Set oXML = CreateObject(”Microso... oXML.Load sPathToXML <Do stuff> Set oXML = Nothing And that's it to load an XML file. Really. Once you have the XML document loaded, you can use all ......

SC Code Camp 2.0...done!
Well, it's done. South Carolina Code Camp 2.0 is complete, and it qualifies as a complete success. I am just now home from Greenville via band practice, and it's late. As such, I am going to keep this as brief as I can. I wanted to thank Paul and Chris for making the camp a success. They worked very hard to arrange things, and get everything lined up for us. They provided the structure that enabled we speakers to come and focus on speaking. Thank you to Denise for handling the volunteers, you were ......

CodeCamp update again
CodeCamp 2.0 is all but upon us! I am very pleased to say we will be adding a NETCF session from Lou Vega after mine on Sunday. Lou's “da man“ on the CF, so I am sure we'll all see a lot of very cool stuff from him. Sure going to make my game look lame. See, it's this box that pops up and says “Hello, World!“ in it...the goal is to click the X in the upper right corner. I was afraid it would be too hard for most, so I made the box stay perfectly still...... In any event, if ......

It should require a license.....
A mother in Charlotte, NC has been arrested for allegedly rewarding her 13 year old for doing his smoking pot with about it here. I am not normally one to judge how parents raise their child, but wtf?????

Interesting limitation to NETCF
I realized something interesting about the NETCF this weekend: The only classes that support the CreateGraphics() function are Forms and the base class control. I like to use Panel controls to split up my graphics needs; I can have a simple message area, drawing area, whatever. Just makes it simple. However, I need to get a graphics object. I can Invalidate the panel and write code in the Paint event (I get a Graphics object from the arguments), but that isn't always practical. As a matter of fact, ......

South Carolina Code Camp 2.0
Still getting ready for the CodeCamp over the weekend of the 16th and 17th of September. Putting last minute touches on the presentations I am doing. My presentatio on Game Dev for the .NetCF has sort of morphed more into a set of gotchas and some advice on the subject. My biggest challenge on this is that the darned emulator loads so slowly on my machine. I am considering bringing my desktop to bring some more significant processing power and RAM to bear. Guess I need to invest in a new laptop one ......
