Norton Internet Security Vs. GoogleTalk

I recently upgraded to the Norton Internet Security package. I've been a Norton fan for years, since the original Norton Desktop for Windows came out, and have shown a lot of brand loyalty over the years. Previously, I used just the AV software, and relied on free software for my firewall needs (Zone Alarm being my fave for years).

Since I need to re-up my AV subscription, I thought "Why not?" (which is exactly what they want you to think...oy... I am so weak sometimes). So, I purchased the full package for 2006. Honestly, I am not unhappy with it at all. I was sort of miffed that they have this “Extended Download” service for $7..basically, you can only d/l it for 60 days..without this service. Since I intended to backup the software anyway, I opted out. I was charged anyway. A minor note, though.

The package is actually pretty good and simplified my network setup a lot. I can control a tremendous amount of traffic on my machine with it, and I have configured it to my specific needs and preferences. However, it's defaults would cover most people very well.

However, GoogleChat and it are having argument. It thinks GoogleChat changes everytime it logs in. So, I have tried to tell NIS that it's cool; just leave it alone. It refuses, insisting there is a problem. Now, I know what you're thinking; perhaps there is. However, I am pretty sure there isn't. I ended up stopping GoogleChat on that machine until I get it worked out, and am instead running it on another on the network.

Again, only a minor irritation which I hope to resolve.

Same prob on my wife's machine. I haven't figured out how to fix it, but am looking. It's very annoying to her - the popup jumps up a dozen or two dozen times.
