My first race win
Last weekend I ran the Shoreline Shuffle trail 5K. It was my first trail race and also my first first place finish. As a bonus, I also broke 20 minutes, which I didn’t think was possible for me on a trail run. I’ve posted a full race report (with way too many pics) on my running blog ......

Kansas vs Emporia State
I went to the KU game last night with Kyle. We won very easily. On an odd note, the singer of the National Anthem was the daughter of the Emporia State coach, and was wearing a KU shirt. Technorati Tags: Kansas University,KU,Basketball,Em... State ......

The one they call "Sparky"
Chelsea and I went to the movies last night and saw Todd Reesing (the KU quarterback) and Derek Fine (former KU tight end) standing in line at the ticket counter. Turns out they went to the same movie as us too (Baby Mama - which was pretty funny). Technorati tags: Kansas Football, Todd Reesing, Derek Fine, Lawrence Kansas ......

Pictures of Rock Chalk billboards in Lawrence
Lawrence is gearing up for the biggest Kansas-Missouri game since ever. A bunch of business have changed their billboards to give the undefeated Jayhawks well deserved props. I took some pictures of the billboards and put them on a Google Map mashup. Rock chalk! Hope the MU fans are looking forward to a bowl game not in January. Prairie Dunes
Last weekend, I had the chance to play the beautiful Prairie Dunes golf course in Hutchinson, KS. They have hosted several pro events, including the 2006 Senior Open. The course was in perfect condition. The fairways are tight, the greens are vicious and bunkers are everywhere. I ended up hitting only 5 greens in regulation and missed all of my birdie attempts. I kept my score under 100 though, and walked away with a 95. More pictures here. Technorati tags: Golf, Prairie Dunes, Hutchinson KS ......

Golfing at Eagle Bend
Kyle, Matt Prentis and I are golfing at Eagle Bend this afternoon. They are much better than me. It's going to be a loooong day. Matt needs to start blogging. Golfing in the snow and more evil TFS
I'm playing golf tomorrow in Kyle's JRM tournament. As if I didn't have enough problems finding my tee shots, it is supposed to snow tomorrow :) In related news, not to be obsessive, but I just created changeset 666 on our Team Foundation Server. It's also Friday the 13th which happens to be my sister's 14th birthday, so happy birthday Christina! Technorati tags: Golf, Kyle Archer, JRM, snow, TFS, evil, Christina Hibbard ......

Football, Basketball and System.Security.Cryptography. The perfect Saturday
I didn't really like how I was storing some of our SQL connection information. It was buried deep in the file system in an XML file, but it was still plain text. So I spent my day looking at the different encryption options in the .net framework. I needed it to be two-way encryption so our objects could still work with it, so I decided on Rijndael. I found some great code, modified what I needed and wrapped it in one of our objects. It works pretty well. Now only if KU could have pulled it out... ......

The upset that will win me all my NCAA pools
#13 Davidson will crush Maryland tomorrow, making me the envy of all those in my bracket pool. Other over-ranked teams taking an early first round exit: Butler, Notre Dame, UNLV, Indiana, Creighton and Vanderbilt. Kansas and Texas in the National Championship. Kevin Durant scores 44, but still suffers his third loss of the year to the Jayhawks. Rock Chalk! Technorati tags: NCAA, Maryland sucks, Kansas, Rock Chalk, Kevin Durant ......

Siriusly, the best present ever
My girlfriend got me a Sirius radio for Valentine's day. More specifically, a sportster 4 with pause, rewind and fast forward. I can set my favorite teams and it alerts me when they are playing. I can set favorite bands or songs and it will alert me when a station is playing it. It even has a built in FM modulator so I don't have to hard-wire it to my stereo. Plug and play, it just works! My Saturn is officially geeked out now. It already had the GeeksWithBlogs sticker, my TomTom and Where's Tim. ......

Disappointment, classless Aggies and drinking with the college gameday crew
We went to the KU game on Saturday. It sucked to watch us lose an 11 point lead in five minutes. I still don't know what happened. It's not like we were making critical mistakes, a couple missed free throws, but that's about it. It's not like Texas A&M was making easy shots, we played solid defense the whole game. It just slipped away from us. After the final buzzer, in an act that portrays the entire A&M program as a classless crew that doesn't know how to win, they jumped up and down in ......

Windows Forms 2.0 Programming
I picked up Chris Sell's book this weekend. I've been excited to get this book from whenever I first heard about it. When thumbing through it at Borders, I found ever more goodies than I expected. Visual Inheritance is something I know nothing about and I also think I'm doing too many things manually like validation and settings management that the framework can handle for me. If anything, it was a great distraction during the 3 hours of decomposition of the Kansas City Chiefs. Damon gets my vote ......

KU crushes Dartmouth
Yesterday, Phog Blog (a blog dedicated to Kansas University sports) posted Dartmouth: Bad At Basketball talking about how statistically awful Dartmouth is. The main blogger there posted a comment predicting a 90 - 37 victory. He wasn't far off, the final score was 83 - 32. Interestingly enough, Florida (who was #1 and was beaten by Kansas on Saturday) also crushed their opponent yesterday by a score of 83 - 27. After the fantastic matchup last Saturday, I get the feeling that KU will be compared ......

The golf round of my life
Since Kyle and Carl are out of town, I figured I may as well sneak off to the golf course and play a round while it's still nice. I went with my buddy Bryan and shot the best round of my life. I'm normally a mid 90's golfer, but today, everything just worked and I walked away with an 83!! I was driving my tee shots over 300 yards, my wedge was accurate, and I actually made putts! It was a great feeling and I probably won't shoot that well for a long time, so for the moment, here's to me ......

KU vs UT
The Kansas game Saturday was a mess. We played almost as bad as against Arizona. Except against Arizona, we only shot and never passed. Against Texas, it seemed we had 2 extra passes every possession. We were playing scared and hopefully we realize they are nothing special when we play them for the Big 12 championship game. The PhogBlog had good post game report, basically asking for the retirement of Dickie V. Kyle also had a post game post. We've been playing so well before this game...I'm sure ......
