Jeff Julian and John Alexander were nice enough to let me speak about the AJAX.net library last night at the Kansas City .net User Group meeting. I've never spoken in front of that many people before, and it was quite an experience. I didn't do a very good job going over the concept or the history of AJAX, but Jeff was there to bail me out. Thanks Jeff!! I really appreciate the feedback that people left me and I look forward to giving this talk again at the South Carolina Code Camp.
I have a new found respect for people that give geek talks all the time!! The toughest part was know that some people were right there following the talk and understanding the concept, and that some of the people I had lost a step or two ago and were having a tough time putting it all together. I guess you'll never give a talk where everybody will be on the exact same page, I wonder how seasoned speakers get the slower ones up to speed while not boring the people that understand everything you talking about. I've been at plenty of talks when I was a little behind the speaker or didn't quite grasp the concept, and that is more frustrating that being bored because I already know what the speaker is talking about. So I guess I answered my own question. It's more important to go back to the basics of a talk if not everybody is ready to go to the next step.
I've posted some startup instructions on using AJAX.net and the code from the demos we went over last night. http://geekswithblogs.net/thibbard/articles/79447.aspx.
And then on the way home, I blew out a tire. I really enjoyed putting on a spare in my dress clothes while you crazy Kansas City drivers flew past me on 435!!
