oh, we truly do, we truly HATE Apple Quicktime! For a major computer company to push this maliscious, intrusive software on our systems is, or should be, CRIMINAL!

Agreed in more ways then one. Years ago I purchased and Apple computer that was quickly obsoleted when the next rev rolled out. Apples response was "Buy the new rev"! Like I have that kind of money. the point is that Apple could not care less about it's customers. I install quicktime only as long as I absolutely have to and then take it off. No apple products, period!

QuickTime isn't intrusive. However, you may not know how to control it with regards to your other media platforms. If you don't know how to use a computer, move to the Galapagos for an extended stay away from civilization.

Dr. Parallax, you must be a Mac user or work for Apple. Quicktime IS intrusive. It adds itself to the startup so you have that crappy qttask running even when you tell it not to, it hijacks all the media associations even when you tell it not to, and doesn't put them back after you uninstall it. It's slow, it pops up 'purchase pro version now' all the time, and generally is crap in every conceivable way.

We at Apple spend considerable efforts to ensure that the software we engineer provides the best user experience that we can possibly deliver.
At times it might appear that the interface is more intrusive than you had maybe expected, however during our labs testing it has been proved beyond resonable doubt that this largely derives from the incredibly positive profile Apple has generated with it's customers worldwide, which ensures that when our software is accessed the user is always aware and grateful it is an Apple product, and one that they can rely on.
Of course we constantly strive to deliver a consistent user experience and we have determined through our lab testing that the best way to achieve this consistency is to raise the profile of Quicktime on the users computers, we have found that if we ensure Quicktime always starts with the computer the awareness of Quicktime is enhanced, even when the customer doesn't intend to watch any video content during their session, and installing icons on the desktop and quick launch toolbars go further toward maintaining Apples profile and reputation for quality software.
A positive by-product of our lab tests is the discovery that where we help the user by restricting their choice for alternative products and limit the users ability to 'accidentally' disable Quicktime the profitability of Apple is encouraged, especially where we enhance the user experience by providing additional functionality within Quicktime, but by not charging them for those facilities until they require them we are expanding the customers choice.
Additional capabilities like adding the superb iTunes facilities within the install package by default, only enhances the user experience further and continues to protect Apples long term viability and its capability of delivering similar excellent software well into the future.
I hope this goes some way to allay readers concerns and allow the prodigal consumer to return to the one true Apple.

If what you say is true, then if i use msconfig and remove it from startup, then the application should only exist on my system if i have it installed and personaly executes the program.
But no, the damn thing keeps getting up in the taskbar taking resources i ONLY would want to give if its absolute necessary.
And that is as someone said earlier when there is no other format to show a movie in.

I belive apple pay big money to make companies discard other players to make quictime the only possibility.

Steve Jobs, if that's really you up above, bite me. Your QT insists on playing my audio files directly in Internet Explorer and takes forever to load them, which is stupid because there's no option to disable that lame feature, if you could call it one. The solution I've found is simple: uninstall the intrusive QT, and never worry myself with Mac-for-PC products again.

I hate it because it is intrusive, it has no function that other programs cannot perform better, and it looks ugly. No program has ever given me as much trouble. And this has been for as long as I've owned a pc. Every time it rears it's face, I curse and damn the sons of dogs who created it. And if their is any justice in the beyond, then every apple employee with burn in hell for having promoted either 'apple' or its lousy rotten products.

I hate QT and will always do so, AND the F---ERS that made it. Not even if it was the last player on this planet would I use it again. I'd f***ing rather sing or act myself than to let that shitty, rotten, stinking piece of software touch my music or movie files. If there is a god, please let him strike swift and hard on those damned lines of programming that puts together that devilish piece of pest.

Wow, apple sucks ipod, quicktime, itunes-Ha.
All Hype no action. Mommy and daddy apple say no you cant do that.
like who the f_ck are they they ? Apple computers and the ipod can't do anything right .
why do apple people think they are so smart ,when they have to do 8 steps to do what i can do with the click of a mouse?
Creative Zen M is way better then I-God the the false icon. now we have to deal with Quick time everywhere the worst player ever made.
My Zen M came with a built in radio and all the power cables, and conversion software came with it .
None of that crappy apple stuff, comes with anything .
Crapple is over priced crap.
just think if you bought a car and it could not go over 65 because the manufacture says so and then it didn't come with tires well thats How Apple does it buisness. We dont get sh_t for our money . then it doesn't work when you do buy all there crap anyway.
Now we are being forced to use Quicktime and it sucks.Help save us Bill G !
If Microsoft is trying to take over computing how come they only make software?

I only use Quicktime because it is the format that my digital cameras use. Otherwise, I'd never install it on my system. I hate the buy pro nag screen, the inability to view full screen and the super annoying qttask TSR that always wants to be running. Why is it that so many software companies feel that the only reason you have a computer is to run their product, and so it should use as much system resources as possible at all times?

The only thing worse than Quicktime, is Realplayer.

"The only thing worse than Quicktime, is Realplayer." (By Rob) That's not entirely true - there is actually a worst piece of crap than Realplayer and even Quicktime and it its everything Adobe has ever published. I would nuke them myself provided I had the bomb.

If only Steve would listen! The perfect solution for stopping qttask from being started, or at least what I did, was delete the qttask.exe file. Then use winguardPro Demo to restrict the users from reinstalling "QuitTime"...(pun. I gave away my IMAC and swore never to return to Apple! And to this day, I do not deify Apple products. In fact, I can usually discourage anyone from buying one sharing my negative experiences with Apple products, services, and least but not last expenses. That is, nothing is shareware! I Hate Apple & QuickTime, too! Sue ME!

I hate quicktime and how it is forced upon me when I download itunes. I also hate how quicktime starts when I turn on my computer, and I have never used quicktime by choice. It has no function that another program cannot perform better. It looks ugly and its face smells. It doesn't really smell, but if it could it would stink. I guess if you can force your software on enough people, that it will eventually get you somewhere.

The #1 reason i absolutely REFUSE to buy an ipod or or apple computers is the fact that they produce quicktime. By producing one absolutly HORRIBLE program for so long, the seems to only get worse with each edition, makes me lose all trust for anything apple does. Atleast microsoft allows you the choice to use 50 other programs. It provides you with media player by default for convenience, and i love it. I rather get rammed in the ass by bill gates than steve job's massive black quicktime dick ANYDAY. I will never give apple a cent until they eliminate ALL the negative issues with quicktime and apologize for the YEARS of frustration they have caused to millions of people worldwide.

Quicktime is the most useless piece of shit software I have ever seen, if you happen to "UPGRADE" to a different, decimal point version, you end up paying another 40 bucks for a new license. At least windows is free to upgrade!!!! Also, what is the deal with playing .AVI files with it, it takes a high-def .avi file, and makes it look like it was filmed by a 4 year old with a web cam. Lastly, and this is for anyone who does major movie editing with AVID Studio Express Pro, or Adobe Premiere Pro (any version), or any other Non-Linear Editing Software. It requires you to have the latest version of Quicktime, and then it takes FOREVER for it to export, and when it is done, it is either the wrong file type, size, or it looks like plain old S#&%!!!!

"We at Apple spend considerable efforts to ensure that the software we engineer provides the best user experience that we can possibly deliver."

@your engineers:

SMIL - fail@hardward abstraction, l2deinstantiate your fricken memory, l2 cross project unit test. SOME hardware will deconstruct it's memory through the HAL, others wont... perhaps spending more than 10 minutes to comprehende the HAL library (i.e. openGL, DirectX) will prove to mean your software is actually working. Better still, get some software engineers who actually code, or alternatively, should finance be the problem, get some management who don't want to run their tongues over the pretty boxes and actually want to invest in sound product performance. Somewhere you are just plain failing.

SOCKETS - fail@application layer problem mitigation. IF I GET ANOTHER "INVALID URL" from basic TCP transport problems i'm going to scream.

better still.... i might just go with flash.

I have a macbook, and my only complaint is that QT is the ugliest, slowest piece of shit that never has every codec and always wants to be upgraded... but still, i just use VLC and its all good, so what are you guys whining about? Just find another player.
Its way less annoying than vista.

Why on earth do we have to pay to get full screen with QuickTime? I dont know a single other media player that forces you to pay to get a simple function like full screen! And as for QTTask.exe.... arrrgghh! It deserves a place in hell right next to RealPlayer!

I think the reason Quicktime is so great is because you can play .MOV files with it. Those files are great and waaaaay better than MPEG or AVI. Why even have other formats. MOV all the way!!!!
Gravatar # re: People hate quicktime

I have to agree 100% with dude. The Quicktime® .MOV format is not only an industry standard but it also represents Apple's® commitment to excellence and quality which Apple® customers expect.

Without the Quicktime® .MOV format then many of the latest innovations in the internet media would simply not be possible. Without Apple's® continuous push for innovation and user-friendly interfaces then services such as YouTube® and streaming multi-media would simply not exist. If it weren't for Apple's® Quicktime® format even the latest DVD and Blueray® discs would not be possible. As a matter of fact, with Apple's® Quicktime® there would be no T.V. at all.

The facts speak for themselves and without Apple's® Quicktime® the internet would not be what it is today.

I was doing my multimedia application in the class the other day, and I had to put a video in it, the only format I could find on the computer that day was an only readed by Quick sucker Time format, I had no preoblem linking to it in the application, I didn't had time to lunch it as the professor told us we ran out of time, the application was beautiful as my camarads said, but I had 8/20, and guess why, It was that F**king Quik big F**k Time the reason, It took forever to load and it was a pain in the ass, so thanks apple for screwing my day and week, and I hope you never make software again, and let those who know how to do it better do there work
