QuickTime Killer

For those of you that use Sprint Video Mail, or those that get sick of that quicktime icon in your taskbar, We wrote a little application that removes the quicktime startup information, and stops the background quicktime process. The application is available here

Here is the read me info:

This application is intended for people that use or consume Sprint Video Mail, as Sprint uses QuickTime for viewing thier movies. (or anybody that hates QuickTime) Of course, as soon as QuickTime is ran, it adds itself to startup, which is very annoying to me. This application will remove QuickTime from start up and kill any running QuickTime processes. This application runs silently at start up and closes itself as soon as it takes care of QuickTime.

Wonderful thought but what about us that don't have the .NET framework installed? The install program indicates that this is required.

True...It is a .NET application, so it requires the .NET framework. I don't know why anybody would have a problem installing the framework, most of the application I use target the framework.

Server Error in '/' Application using the downoad link...I really wanted your QT Killer tool too.

Will check back later...I hope it's hosted elsewhere. As I have always hated QTTask.exe, constanty hanging on shutdown in XP machines.

nice idea but to most of us .NET framework is
Yet Another Helper Program To Install
just to turn off another proggie,
an auto-runing reg hack and a proc killer
would work toand may me as small
or smaller than your app
and not require .NET

I recently downloaded the most up to date version of .NET framework from Microsoft. When I to run your software, I am informed that I need to download a version of the .NET framework that I can't find. I HATE Quick Time and its intrusiveness. Would appreciate access to your application... AND would be willing to pay for it …if it truly suspended QT. Basically, I prefer to run media through Media Player. My problems originated with QT after I installed iTunes... which requires QT in order to work... uuugh!

It's simple: just remove or rename the %ProgramFiles%\QuickTime\QTTask.exe file (where %ProgramFiles% is usually C:\Program Files\). QuickTime will try loading it but will silently fail when it doesn't find the file.

so simple, just rename the QTTask.exe file to something else (like QTTask.old) like Tino suggested. No need to download and install software that will further clutter your registry.

pretty sad when a major company's software inspires software designed solely for the purpose of defeating said software's features, just to make it palatable for use.

I agree with Steve; my main gripe with both Apple and Real is that their software is so intrusive awkward to manage. I won't buy an iPod for the very reason that iTunes (and therefore Quicktime) are a requirement.

I've got the program installed, it works great, but I'm having problems with Itunes. How can I uninstall Quicktime Killer so I can finally really use my Ipod??

Just go to Add/Remove programs and remove QuickTime Killer. It will be gone. I don't leave any software when you remove it.

i see no one has posted here in over a year, so i'm not sure this post will be noticed, but i have a question about the qt killer program. i also hate qt, and would love to get it off my computer. however, if i use this program, will i still be able to use itunes? obviously itunes is the only reason i put up with qt...

# re: QuickTime Killer

AFAIK, QT killer will not conflict with itunes. If it does, qt killer will uninstall cleanly

first comment of this year; rofls. if qt killer will uninstall cleanly; do yu mean it will uninstall all of its components auto or do yu have to do it yourself?

@irving
You won't know exactly when. It goes away as soon as it kills off the quicktime process...usually 2 or 3 seconds after loading depending on the speed of your machine.

# re: QuickTime Killer

oh mkays. like..my itunes is being gay cuz it keeps saying a newer version of quicktime is installed so thats why i needed something to eliminate every single piece of quicktime that was installed onto my computer >_> so if the quicktimekiller destroys everything, i should be able to install itunes sussessfully right?

# re: QuickTime Killer

Quicktime killer doesn't uninstall Quicktime...i just stops it from running at startup. To remove quicktime from your computer, use add/remove programs in the control panel
