CEO for EnGraph software
Migrating from MapInfo to MapPoint is going to save our clients about $1000 per computer. Most clients run our software on 5 - 10 of their computers. Most of the bids we lose are due to cost and we usually only get under bid by less than $5k. We will be able to deliver a better product at a cheaper cost thanks to MapPoint ......
Kyle and I are leaving for San Angelo, TX in a couple hours. We will be there for a week doing training and installation. Any suggesstions on things to do down there?
Having troubles running your Access 2000/XP apps on Access 2003? This is due to the new security settings in Access. Update: Instructions for Access 2007 For the full version of Access: Open Access 2003 from the start menu. Go to Tools->Macro->Securit... (you may have to "reset" your toolbar if this menu does not show up. Tools->Customize->Too... Tab->Reset) On the dialog box that opened up, select "Low", then click "OK" For Access 2003 Runtime: Set or create the following registry ......
Our email and website have been down today and yesterday. Damn earthlink Update: From earthlinks website: Some Webhosting domains beginning with letters E, F, G and H are not resolving properly, resulting in errors with mail delivery and viewing webpages. System Administration is aware of the issue and currently working to resolve. DNS is being reloaded to properly recognize the affected domains That makes no sense to me...I just hope it is fixed soon. Update2: Now the Sprint pictures site is down ......
It is disgusting how NBC is displaying the Olympics as a human drama reality tv. These athletics have trained their entire life for one shot at greatness. They should be treated with the respect they deserve instead of being whittled down to a soap opera!
I attended the Lawrence Technology Association meeting today. Our company presented a session on what we do, and another Lawrence company presented some bio-tech info. I was able to sit next to one of the developers from Sprint who told me about their plans to roll out a service that would be able to hand off data and voice calls between PCS and 802.11. That would be nice for people like me that have poor cell coverage in my house and a wireless network ......
A new version of Ad-Aware is available. Get it here
After installing the 2.0 framework beta, Outlook's Business Contact Manager doesn't load. It just gives the generic "Do you wish to report this..." error. This happened to me a couple months ago and then to my co-worker this morning. Anybody else seen this?
To allow Local Computer (Full Trust) security on an application deployed with ClickOnce, add the root url of the website to the Trusted Sites list on the Security tab of Internet Options. Then reset the security level of Trusted Sites to Low. You can now go back to the /publish.htm page and run your application with out getting the security warnings.
Microsoft is putting on a MapPoint web cast for developers at 10:30 AM CST today. Click here to register
When you are polling IAsyncResult in a asyncronous web service call, make sure that you have a DoEvents in there otherwise IsCompleted will always return false. In all the documentation that MSDN and the web provides, I didn't find one place had this info
Downloaded and installed XP SP2 today. It took about 3 hours to download from MSDN and install. The new wireless network GUI is nice. The security center is cool. I installed one of the recommended anti-virus applications (CA's EZ Trust) It tried to take over the firewall and it had all these popups and it was just annoying so I uninstalled it. The new windows update is out too. Nothing really different, new interface and some links for network admins. When you install an update from Windows Update ......
Microsoft has a program designed just for Independent Software Vendors. The idea is to pair you up with a Microsoft developer or PM that works closely with the products that you develop with. I signed up a couple days ago and got paired up with a guy named Joe Duffy with the CLR team. We've talked a bit over email and he has already provided me with some great information. Microsoft is really showing an interest in the community, its a good time to be a developer. link to more info ......
Cool page put together by Chandu (rss) that lets you post your blog's location on a MapPoint map.
The concept of web services is great, and I'm always looking for new ones or new ways to use the power of web services. I made a list of good ones I've found so far Most developers have their own style of programming, their own dialect. So using another developer's function, to get the result that you are looking for, can be frustrating. Some want you to enter a string and return a structure, some want a string and then return a structure. The documentation for this is usually minimal. Most developers ......
Like many others, I started using FireFox as my browser due to the security scares and mostly due to performance issues of IE. It was loading slower than it used to.
However, FireFox didn't work well with certain sites, like MSDN and my bank. So downloaded all the Office and Windows updates, and gave IE another chance.
Maybe its all in my head, but the speed issues I was having before have seemed to go away, so I reset my default browser to IE
I don't like the way the toolbox is organized in VS 2005. I like it in 2003, when you select a tab, that tab is expanded and the rest are compacted.
At least make it an option. I searched the options and could not find where to change that. I hope somebody is listening
1) Enter username and password
2) Enter account properties
Under the tab enter yourusername/services/metablogapi.aspx in the Page field
OneNote is really useful, especially for fields, functions and stored procedure names that you need to remember. Except usually these names are not in the dictionary and you get that annoying squiggly line in red under the word...which throws everything off! I found that you can disable that line by going to Tools -> Options -> Spelling -> Hide Spelling errors.
Now everything looks nice and clean :)
I have finished creating Record Activity Tracker, known to me and Kyle as RAT. Our original database doesn't have fields for datestamps. We can't really modifiy the existing structure because it is too hard to update clients, so we created a new table that handles all the record update/create activity. Read the “official“ version on the news page of our Website.
