Vista New Email shortcut
Typing mailto: in the search box in the Vista start menu will open a new mail message in Outlook. It is much faster for me to hit the Win key on my keyboard and type mailto: than it is for me to hunt through the 15 open applications, find Outlook and click "New". Plus I don't have to transition between my mouse and keyboard. It's really not a new Vista thing since you could have typed WinKey + R, then mailto: before, but it's still cool. TFS Work Item Management Outlook Addin
Wow! The SRL Team has released an Addin for Outlook that connects to Team Foundation Server. This is the task management tool that I have been waiting for. You can generate a work item right from Outlook. You can view queries, you can search your work items, you can even generate a work item based on content from an email. I mapped the subject to the task title and the body to the description, but you can map any field you want. Then it changes the subject line in the email to have the work item...

Scrybe
Scrybe has potential. It is a personal web based organizer that has "human nature" built in. It looks like it was designed by somebody that has no idea how to write software or what a database looks like. Which can be a good thing as far as user experience goes. I tried Google's calendar for a while, but Outlook was still better because I can associate contacts with events, and sync everything automatically with my PPC-6700. If Scrybe can add those things, I might switch. Technorati tags: Scrybe...

Trying out NewsGator
On recommendation from Jeff, I'm trying out NewsGator. After 12 hours of use, this is what I think: Love the mobile app. The interface is pretty and smart. It marks my items read on the server side, so I don't read posts twice. It also allows me to "clip" a feed, so that I can look at it later from the computer. The app is a bit buggy though and often just exits. The NewsGator Online is ok. Nothing special except that I can see how many people subscribe to a particular feed. It's a little slow, but...

GeoRSS is the future of geographic data
GeoRSS is an extension of RSS that allows for geographic information to be associated with a blog post, an event, a gps location, a photograph or any other information where geographic information would help better describe the item. Several websites are recognizing the value of GeoRSS and are adding these extensions to their feeds. Most recently, Wordpress is using GeoRSS to add maps to their posts. One of the things that Jeff and I talked about on our roadtrip is adding GeoRSS tags to ESS. ESS,...

You can now create managed add-ins to outlook using Visual Studio Tools for Office 2005. This will make a lot of headaches go away...like this one. More info here. Linked from Paul Stubbs

Why won't Outlook just go away...
That may be a misleading title...sorry :)If you having trouble getting Outlook to shutdown when your managed add-in is installed (as I was Sunday night), check this post out. It really helped me out. Thanks Eric

MobileOutlook
I love to be connected. My laptop has wireless. My cell phone can get online. I can plug a cable from my phone to my laptop and use it as a modem when I am on the road. The problem has always been retrieving my email when I don't have my laptop. I can go online with my phone to mail2pda.com, but then I have to enter my username, password, pop3 server...etc. Major pain. So for a while I was using rules in Outlook to foward emails to my phone. That worked ok, but I could only get the first 160 charactors...

Hello world
Well, after attending DevEssentials in Kansas City and listening to Jeff Julian speak on the importance of community and blogging your individual development efforts, I decided it would be a good idea to start blogging on my own. I have been moblogging for a while, but this is my first official text post. I live in Lawrence, KS and develop in .net, SQL, and VBA Access for a small virtual company. I have been programming ever since my Dad gave me a Mac Plus and ZBasic at the ripe age of 10. I also...
