I haven’t been able to keep up with the blog as of late with getting the Kansas City chapter of IASA Global up and running. We are excited to bring the training and education factors of IASA into the local Kansas City market. It’s a little selfish on my part as I want the training courses here locally so I don’t have to get travel approved as well. Due to this, I have put in a lot more effort to make sure this group is set correctly and running as efficiently as possible. With that, our initial meeting ...
You’ll notice for the next little while, I’m going to be talking about architectural refactoring. These posts will be a reflection on the past couple years as a software architect, specifically centered around what some people call “brownfield” development. That is, taking something that is in a less than ideal state, and improving it… not starting from scratch as in new (or “greenfield”) development. Leaving aside philosophical discussions about whether all software development is “brownfield” or ...

So how do you keep your skills sharp and your resume viable? Your resume is going to be littered with jobs other than the title of architect. Within a project look for ...

It's now been almost 2 months since I have been part of the Tampa Bay IASA chapter's leadership. In that time we've moved the meeting registration to Eventbrite and have started sending monthly newsletters. (The February newsletter was very late, and I sincerely apologize to everyone. The rest of them will be on time from now on.) The first newsletter that was sent out was managed "by hand" and it was a major headache. When I first started the newsletters, I searched around for a good email marketing ...
