So, this morning, my phone was locked out after many wrong lock pattern entries.
Phone was asking for gmail username/pass. For some reason, it was not accepting the correct username/password.

It was relief when it occurred to me that I had two step verification enabled.
I disabled the two step verification from my PC and was able to log into the phone :)
Over the years of being a FTE and a contractor I see in my gmail account the list of company email addresses that I have had over the years. Certainly I wouldn't be able to recall all the email addresses prior to using gmail. Google provides you a very good contacts manager. http://contacts.google.com Google also gives you the ability to synchronize your phone contacts with the contacts on your gmail account. I found this quick tutorial to do contacts sync on Nokia 5800 xpress music phone. Now contacts on my Android phone (Google Nexus One) and Nokia phone (5800 Xpress Music) as always in Sync and backed up ;) Steps of enabling the Contatct (only Contacts) Sync on Nokia 5800.Without images:Go to Menu -> settings -> ...
I recently obtained a Samsung Omnia 7 with the WP7 OS. Straight off the bat - let me say how impressed I am with this phone and how easy it is to use. It took about 3 minutes to have all my Gmail and Facebook contacts loaded and merged and be connected to the Wifi. Another huge plus is the Zune software. This absolutely beats the ITunes for Windows software hands down when it comes to podcasts. Other pluses included the screen being so bright and the physical size of the phone which is comfortable ...

Here are some links I found useful when I was setting up mine:

I haven’t been able to get my work email syncing with my Samsung Focus since I started the new gig due to some certificate issues. When I try to connect, I’m just told there’s a problem with the certificate. The real underlying issue is that the certificate for my work email isn’t installed on my WP7 device. Unfortunately, this ends up being a manual task that you have to perform, but its not a difficult one once you know what to do. Jerome Laban’s blog post talks about the root cause of the issue: ...
Some of you have probably already seen Google’s April 1st announcement of their technology to use “Motion Sensing” to control Gmail. I betcha Google probably didn’t think of Kinect when making that spoof or perhaps they did which is why it sound plausible in a remote way. Anyways the FAST crew have brought responded to the spoof with demoing their Software doing just that. i.e. having motion control for Gmail using a Kinect and custom software of theirs. Actually this seems very feasible if you could ...
Here is the quick answer: Go into your client e software (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) for the account you are working on (usually default). Set the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com Set the username as your gmail account user name (e.g. myname@gmail.com). Gmail will need the username and password you use for that account, so if your default is set to some other email, be sure to set the username and password to that value, or click on the checkbox for username/password. Check TLS as the secure connection. ...
Last night my wife’s Nexus One finally bit the dust. You may not know but I’ve been nursing her Nexus One one along for quite a while after her screen shattered. I was able to replace it on my own (go me!) but little quirks have been popping up and the phone was quickly deteriorating. Lately it’s been the power button. Wifey would often have to press the power button several times to get her phone to turn on and last night it just wouldn’t wake up again. I took it apart and tried my best to see if ...
I set up my work Outlook account on my Samsung Focus today. Overall, the process was pretty painless and its working as expected (my calendar is updated as well). One small FYI though: don’t dilly-dally when entering the Outlook account settings. As I was trying to set it up, I got into a conversation with one of our network admins. While talking to him, the phone – which was in the Outlook account settings screen – exited out on its own and displayed my Gmail account. All the settings I had entered ...
Log4j includes an SMTP appender that can be used to send logging messages via email. As of log4j 1.2.16, this built-in appender has the ability to send messages via Gmail. Here is an example log4j configuration that uses Gmail to send logged messages: log4j.rootLogger=DEBUG, gmail log4j.appender.gmail=org.ap... log4j.appender.gmail.SMTPPr... log4j.appender.gmail.SMTPUs... log4j.appender.gmail.SMTPPa... log4j.appender.gmail.SMTPHo... ...
I put the following function in my PowerShell profile so that I can just bring up my PowerShell console and type myself a quick “todo” note that automatically gets emailed to me for later. There are several things of note in this tiny script: 1. Note the use of the $args variable to effectively allow the user to enter $msg parameter without quotes even if it contains whitespace. 2. In this particular example I’m sending the email through Gmail. smtp.gmail.com, port 587, SSL and authentication required. ...
With the upcoming announcements around Windows Phone 7, I thought now would be a good time to dive into the platform and see what its all about. For those thinking that writing apps for the WP7 platform would be like writing apps for any other platform, prepare for a reality check (unless you’ve written XNA apps for the XBOX Live marketplace…I’m assuming the process is somewhat similar). A key aspect of the WP7 experience is the Marketplace – a Microsoft controlled gateway to getting your mobile ...
I was lucky enough to be nominated to receive the Windows Phone 7 from a representative at Microsoft. The phone that was given to me was the LG GW910. Please note that this phone is not mine, it’s going back in a couple of weeks. The review of the phone below is my personal opinion. Keep reading to find out if I’m actually going to buy one and to see other screen shots. Back to the phone, the first thing that I did was remove the sim card from my iPhone 3G and drop it into the WP7. It immediately ...
Long ago, in the mid and late-90s, the mobile device market was a bit different from today’s. Palm led the PDA category, with monochrome devices that operated offline, until the Palm VII and its ultra-slow Internet service came out. The Palm VII was all the rage amongst early-adopters…I even bought the erstwhile publisher of Visual Studio Magazine’s predecessor one and shipped it to him, because they were available in New York, but not in the Bay Area, where he was. Then a Canadian company called ...
Remember when the internet was like the wild west, you could do and say anything you wanted and no one could track you or stop you? It's not like that anymore and it's getting worse: seems every week there's another story of someone getting fired over a personal blog or twitter or facebook. Google has 282,000 results for "fired for blogging". So what can you do? How do you protect yourself? Read on to find out. What NOT to do I read an article recently on the popular blog lifehacker about using a ...
Still have an old AIM email address lying around and would like to forward it to Gmail? Seems AIM does not have the option to forward mail to another email address but you can import all of your AIM emails into Gmail using POP3. Here's how: 1. Login to your AIM and click on Settings on the far right 2. In the left menu click IMAP and POP 3. This shows your IMAP and POP setup information for AIM. We're going to put this into your Gmail account so your Gmail account will check your AIM account and ...

I updated my Eris to Android’s 2.1 OS last night and everything went pretty well. I had wanted to update the phone mainly for two reasons. The first was to have the Navigation feature of the Google Maps application and to make YouTube work again. YouTube used to work on the phone and then stopped a few weeks ago. But before I started I looked around various forums and blogs to see what doom and gloom folks were talking about the update. Based on what I read and some common sense I used the following ...
I wonder if anyone has had issues with running MSCharts with MVC 2? I have tried a couple of different issues, but still have not got them to render correctly. In the end I always end up with broken image links. Has anyone seen this? I have no errors displaying in my MVC 2 Application build or anything, nothing specific that leads me to any explanation. If anyone has any ideas, please leave a comment or shoot me an e-mail; adronhall at gmail dot com. I would greatly appreciate any insight you MSChart ...
Using YouTube you can upload files to an email address as an attachment. It is quite simple to do this directly from my Nokia N95. I have GMail as my email option in messaging. I can do this in three different ways: 1.Take the video and then opt for send as a message. After that I choose the YouTube upload email address. 2.Go to the gallery and choose the send option. Choose YouTube upload address. 3.Go to message. Choose YouTube upload as recipient. Select Insert, Video clip. To avoid huge accidental ...
So I've been looking for a long time for a good outlook iphone sync solution. My work uses exchange, and does not expose the appropriate ports outside the firewall to allow for good syncing. Some alternatives 1) Forwarding, gets the email there, but now I have to delete 2x 2) xpressmail or other carrier provided forwarding solutions - works great, but not offered on iphone or android! 3) 3rd party forwarding solutions - most not supported by iphone, and $$ 4) normal exchange - 100% solution, if your ...
We have scheduled for a .NET Usergroup meeting next week on the 30th October 2009. I arranged with our training department and they have agreed to ensure that we have the room, support in resources including a laptop, projector and anything else which may be necessary. Happy days! They have also guaranteed that we can have the room each month on the last Friday. I had been in communication with Craig Murphy, who took up my tweet and made it his task to see how we can get helped in making this possible ...
Lately I've been noticing a trend in technology that is starting to scare me. I think we've advanced beyond the information age, and are upon a new era of communication and social networking. Gone are the days of actually phoning people, instead we have advanced so far as to invent telephones that instead of calling your friends, you can take full advantage of using a tiny little keyboard to stumble thumb some text message to them. Yes, technology IS advancing. And I must say, I love Facebook/MySpace/Bebo/Whate... ...
Gmail was down a few days ago. That's a big deal, right? Or was it?Shamelessly reproduced from http://www.modelmetrics.com... It's a bit outdated with this recent outage, but the idea behind the post renders exactly how I feel about it.Gmail experienced an outage in Europe overnight. There’s some handwringing and frustration about it. But you know what? I don’t care. Here’s why.1. The last significant Gmail outage looks to have been in August. ...
For those of you using Gmail and the integrated Gmail chat client you could be affected by this bug if access to the Google talk server is blocked by a firewall or another method. The past 2 weeks I noticed that Gmail is using 100% of one of my processors when I am at the office. Access to the Google talk servers is blocked at our firewall so my Gmail integrated chat client is disabled when in Gmail, at least that is what Gmail tells me. See the attached picture on the right. However, when the integrated ...
One of the sessions I did in St. Louis Day of .NET is about Intermediate WPF. It seems to be one that people seem to have liked, so I’m making the materials available here first for those that may be interested in playing around with it. The overview description was made before the material is done, and I was not able to show 3D graphics within the sample; my apologies. In any case, there’s really no text out there that defines what is Intermediate WPF; so I just created one . The session goes through ...
Ever met a geek with an AOL email account? Probably not. Ever wanted to migrate someone you know from AOL to Gmail? Your wife or Mom maybe, so you could share docs, calendars and stuff?? Well here is the easiest method, assuming of course that you have MS Outlook. 1. Fire up Outlook, you don't need to create an email account, creating a profile without email support works just fine. 2. Goto https://www.forge.funambol.... and download the AOL sync at the bottom of the page. 3. Run the program, ...
I use Gmail for my personal email, and as an archive for my EnGraph email, but haven’t been able to use it as my main email client as it appends a “On Behalf of” to messages sent from Gmail using a non-gmail address. Google has recently released an update to Gmail allowing you to use an SMTP server of your choosing, which removes the “On Behalf Of”. Now I can email my clients from Gmail and they don’t know the difference ...
Simplified (Inaccurate) Background About OpenID Some websites allow you instead of registering and logging-in (meaning re-entering the same information you entered before in so many other sites), to enter what is called Open ID URL, which is a URL given by a another website that you already logged in and has your information (called OpenID provider). Once you enter the URL and continue, you get redirected to the OpenID provider confirmation page whether you want to be able to login to the new website ...

Recently we have been receiving another series of complaints from clients that had trouble reading the pdf attachment of a BizTalk dynamic generated email. For some years we have been using the MIME encoder pipeline component and dynamically buildup our emails as multi-part message from inside orchestration. We got the mustard from here. As said, it wasn't the first time we had these complaints. But it was always for a small minority of users only. Hence it sounded more like a user-specific issue. ...
I wanted to write a blog post to document how I do some day-to-day things. It helps me to keep track of my work habits, refine them and perhaps help some others who are looking for some solutions. My current rig is a Apple MacBook Pro 13” unibody. It has the 250Gb drive with 4Gb memory. I am running the latest version of OS X Leopard. I am really enjoying the 13” form factor. It is a little smaller and lighter than the previous 15” unibody which, to me, just felt heavy. I also don't notice the lost ...
As promised, what is my verdict after using BingUK for a week? To be perfectly honest it’s been distinctly unremarkable … and this is a good thing for Microsoft! BingUK is lacking the killer features that the US version has, the ‘get out’ for the UK version is that it’s still in Beta and will be for sometime. So perhaps BingUK is still more of a search engine than a decision engine at the moment. So how does it compare with Google? Well to be honest, it didn’t use Google much in the first place only ...
After my last article about the Nike+iPod dying and the poor support I received from Apple I decided to try and fix it myself instead of spending $30 to mail it back to Apple just to replace a $2 battery. So here's my attempt at how to replace the Nike+iPod battery. Because of the size and number of these images I decided to host them elsewhere. I cut it open with a dremel, but the sensor is really tight inside of the plastic case so it's impossible to cut around the plastic without accidently touching ...

Everyone knows what Twitter is today. Has anybody heard of Jaiku? Well, me neither, until today! Apparently Twitter got competition. My cursory look revealed that Jaiku is more feature reach and options laden than Twitter. Jaiku is operated by Google, so if you already have GMail getting in contact with your friends is a breeze. Additionally, anyone can operate its engine (JaikuEngine) and it is Open Source (sweet)! Go to http://tinyurl.com/awkpcf for more info. Just go and explore it or join me ...
I just read a ZDNet Article by Jason Hiner, and I strongly believe he is missing the point. Before I delve into the details, I would just like to state my opinion. The browser has become frankenstein - these word processors (if you can call them that) and so forth are using the browser for things that it was never designed for. Sure you have V8 in Chrome now - but JS will never match real OOP languages like C# and Java in terms of maintainability. These are 'cool' things that should have remained ...
So, after my server died, I needed a quick way to re-establish my email as I had previously been running Exchange server. My family all have email accounts on this server, so I’d thought I’d explore a few options for hosted email, that would work with our mobile phones (Windows Mobile and iPhone). Reading all the press coverage about Gmail supporting The Microsoft Air-Sync protocol, I thought I’d give this a go. I set up a couple of Gmail accounts. Then on the iPhone went through the process of setting ...
Over the last few days I have been plagued with a view of GMail that does not make for a “Google" experience of UX. All my buttons are vertical instead of horizontal! Features still work, but it is quite annoying. I am wondering if any one else is going through it or if it is just me. <—Click the image to see what it looks like. My resolution is 1920x1200 on both displays. Technorati Tags: Gmail,IE8,Bugs ...
Disclaimer: this blog is about micro-organizing your habits! I've been an addict of Launchy since long. Up until now, when I wanted to lookup a mail I know I have, I would do the following: hit WIN-SPACE (launchy) type "gmail" hit ENTER. This causes firefox to open on the gmail inbox. When I arrive there, I would type a search query into the search box I can now browse the results. Thanks to Launchy, I can reduce these steps to these: hit WIN-SPACE (launchy) type "gmail" hit TAB type my search query ...
I got my renewal notice this morning for a service that I was using. The service would fetch email from my Hotmail account and put it in their POP3 servers. I had GMail set to then retrieve the messages from the service’s servers. Well, this service is no longer necessary because Hotmail now has POP3 service with their free accounts (which I found out by reading this). All you need to know is how to setup GMail to access a POP3 server using these values: POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995) POP SSL ...

Day 5 of 2009 was pretty uneventful. I had a decent flight in from Minneapolis to Sioux Falls and drove the rest of the way in (roughly an hour.) The roads were clear and it wasn't overly windy, so that was nice. (Man that wind is a real PITA though, when it gets going.) Shifted gears at work, wrapped up my involvement on the workflow stuff last week and started on some plugin work that looks really interesting. I'm actually pretty psyched about it. The timeline (as usual) is a little aggressive, ...
Could be that Gmail doesn't like Chrome? I was trying to delete an email using Chrome today and there are several buttons missing. There are no buttons for Archive, Report Spam and Delete. Here, I opened up Firefox and you can see the button for Delete and several other buttons missing. Really Strange behavior here. Guess I'll be using Firefox longer until Chrome works to my liking. New iPhone owners will commonly ask themselves how they can sync their Google Calendar with their iPhone calendar. Or maybe how to sync their Gmail or Google Reader items with their iPhone readers. If you do a web search you’ll find some applications that will actually do this, but don’t waste your time. You want to go to the source, straight to Google, instead of going to Joe Bob Simpleton who has written some half thought out iPhone app to sync these things. So here’s what you do: Turn on your ...
It's true, I'm a Gmail junkie. I've been using Gmail pretty much since the first week it was available. I don't know what I'd do without it. In addition to email, I use it as a massive filing cabinet for all kinds of stuff I just never know if I might need or not... it's always accessible and whatever I stuck in it, I can find with just a quick search term or two. Lately, they added a couple of new features worth mentioning. 1) SMS chat in gTalk is pretty cool, though I don't text nearly as much ...

I have been a long time user of FeedDemon, which I think is an excellent product. Unfortunately I do not feel the same way about NewsGator’s online reader, and its sync with FeedDemon on my desktop leaves much to be desired. In an effort to be able to read my subscriptions from anywhere, I’ve decided to make the switch to Google Reader. I tried GR a long time ago, when it first came out, and I didn’t like the interface, but they have cleaned that up. Thankfully. :) Also, I do plan to keep FeedDemon ...
