Technology has grown faster than the human race in the last few decades. But will there be a time when technology will overtake the human race? It's a question that should not be seen silly at all! Experience has shown us that whatever is going to happen in future gets revealed in an artists mind! He may be a writer, a painter or anything. Many of the technological advancement that once thought impossible were possible only in an artistic mind, until someone came up with an idea to do it! So many ...
Those of you who arent into gaming or NFS you can skip this post. <rant> Good game, but it is also a dissapointment. For those of you who think this game belongs to the Underground franchise (I was one of them) you are wrong. You will realize that soon as you try to mod your car. About the Tuner culture this game is not. About Modding your car, Car Modifications has been taken back to the level of UnderGround and the some. I mean after all the cool stuff we had with Underground 2, EA just toned ...
This is what Sony and Microsoft think we want: * Super Horsepower * Super Graphics * Fancy design * Ability to play a lot of media types, basically turning this "gaming" console into an all-in-one entertainment machine* pricing near that of a good computer (well we don't want this) This is what Nintendo thinks we want: * Innovating gameplay * simple, but good design * Very good graphics * New gaming concepts, such as their new controller * a "fair" price $400-$500 for a gaming console in insane. ...
Poor little geeks...they stayed up all night long, stood in line and froze their little bits off hoping that they might actually get the latest and greatest gaming console called the XBox 360 when Best Buy opened at Midnight. There is nothing worse than the look of gut-wrenching agony on the face of a geek when he/she realizes that the 60 or so units they hoped to get one of were gone by 12:00:30 AM.. So, on their way home the mass of geeks found themselves sitting empty handed in their local Kripy ...
Mostly more Xbox stuff. Microsoft Announces Next-Generation ERP Suite - Microsoft Corp. announced Tuesday the first iteration of its next-generation ERP suite, Dynamics GP 9.0, that brings roles-based user interfaces—and a growing integration across Microsoft's infrastructure—to Windows, SharePoint Services portal and Visual Studio. Is Microsoft Up to Some New Tricks? - He calls them dirty tricks and suspects that Microsoft has invented a whole new online litany of them to promote the ...

Now this is how you wow gamers: Xbox.com: Will there be any benefits to playing original Xbox games on my Xbox 360 console? Todd: Absolutely. One of the great things about gaming on Xbox 360 is the satisfaction of knowing that every game will be playable in high definition. We are now proud to reveal that this extends to the original Xbox games as well. Every original Xbox game will be upscaled to 720p and 1080i, and will take advantage of Xbox 360's anti-aliasing capabilities, delivering a picture ...

I just receieved an email from Mr Vaqar Khamisani announcing launch of Imagine Cup 2006 ! (final round to be held in New Delhi, India) Last year INETA Pakistan played a very important role in evangelising Imagine Cup and as a result we got more than 100 entries from all over the Pakistan and a couple of semi finalists. So it was a success! but this time around we have to make it even bigger and ensure multiple entries to the final round! Lets join hands together to evangelise Imagine Cup 2006 and ...
My final thing task to complete for the Heartland Developer Conference 2005 was to make sure that Game Zone for the Developer Jam was taken care of. The Developer Jam will run from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am on the night of October 13th. Initially while planning the HDC we had discussed working with AMD and Frank Cabanski from IGames. Working with AMD, Frank has been the DJ for the Game Zone at Tech Ed and PDC. Since one of our goals for the HDC is to be a mini PDC, we were very exciting to get the same ...
Commodore prepares to re-enter the gaming market?!?

Read about it here!

Maybe I'm showing my age, but I have many fond memories of sitting in front of my TV and the C-64... There were some surprisingly good games on that system.

Well, Verizon realizes how big the gaming industry is and it has jumped in. Surprisingly, I think it'll make quite the splash. They just launched their Games-On-Demand service and for $14.95/mo you can play full version PC games. I was thinking they'd list old games that never made it far (and there are some of those) but there are actually some really nice games on the list. I've found quite a few that I've played or have always wanted to play. Check it out here: http://verizon.exent.com/ga... ...
IGN team has deciphered a very ingeniously hidden code in a picture of a tree released by Origen Xbox 360. After zooming into the picture, you can see the hidden message written on a tree branch to the very left side and in the bottom. Just visit the Origen Xbox 360 site and zoom in a couple of times on the picture made using Flash, and you will be revealed a hidden message written in Latin. I wonder if Da Vinchi has made a secret picture especially for Xbox :) Visit IGN Xbox 360 for the explaination ...
The China government is now stepping in and limiting game play for MMOG's. I certainly understand where they are coming from and I applaude the idea of restricting time young people play BUT it sould come from the parents and not the government. http://www.gamesindustry.bi... I am starting to see a trend towards government involvement in gaming and I think it is going too far ...
A couple of blogs and online magazines asked the question "how will Vista be with games?" "But the big news, obviously, is the new OS. "When people want to show off what Vista and DirectX 10 can do, people will be showing off games. That's what [Microsoft's] executives do," says Wickham. Most will have to wait for a big consumer unveiling of the new OS this coming January at CES, yours truly was on-hand to see Windows Vista in action." - Microsoft's Lisa Sikora, Product Manager for Windows Gaming ...
[Crosspost from Managed World] This news comes from David Weller. It looks like the Windows Gaming and Graphics Technologies group is finally moving from Usenet to a fully-functional forum environment (RSS-enabled too!!). Check it out ...

Yeah, I got one. Asus A8N-SLi mobo with dual GeForce 6600 GTs = Total Gaming Sweetness

To borrow a quote from Ferris Bueller, “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.”

Game Daily has an interview with Chris Donhaue, group manager of Developer Relations for Windows Graphics and Gaming Technologies. The interview is at http://biz.gamedaily.com/fe... Here is a few interesting tidbits BIZ: The next version of Windows (Longhorn) is supposed to be more console-like in that it's going to eliminate the need to download drivers and installing games will be easier. Make Magazine has a cool article about taking a PC and building your own media center - right down to including a gaming system using N64 controllers and emulators. One of the cool things I found was the streaming music using SlimServer, although I tried to set it up, and while I could see the streaming going, there was no music. However, I think it would be cool to get one of their devices, and use it to stream music through my receiver, since I don’t have any immediate plans to build a DVR ...
I am still researching a way to force focus back to the hardware buttons once I lose it in an onscreen form, but until I do, I am going to do something that will get me by. I am going to use a call to some unmanaged code on my PDA to capture other hardware button events like button 1 (calendar) or button 2 (contacts). There is only a little code that one needs: simply a call that references the dll you need, and pass the handle of the window you want to have the event. Not bad at all. I've found ...
On the eve of the new World of Warcraft patch, and GTA: San Andreas being released for the PC, of course the harddisk in my gaming rig failed. So I took the oppertunity for a little hardware upgrade. Got myself a Western Digital Raptor WD740GD. This is widely considdered as one of the fastest SATA drives out there, almost every harddrive review measures against this drive.. Also replaced my totally inappropriate PC2100 memory with 2 x Corsair XMS TWINX512–3200 LLPT. Running it currently at ...
Technically, Monday is day 1 of Tech*Ed. That doesn't mean that today (Sunday) wasn't crazy busy though. I spent all day at the INETA User Group Summit. What an incredible experience that was! I learned more about running a user group in one day than I have in 2 years of actually doing it. Before I go into too much detail, I just want to say Julie Lerman and Sara Faatz totally rock! Those two (and so many others) made this day possible. I met so many incredible people today, and learned so much, ...
I caught my plane out of Cincinnati at 1PM today and arrived in Orlando greeted by a thunderstorm. There is nothing like coming in from above the clouds expecting palm trees and sunshine and instead getting dark thunderclouds and pounding rain … and here I thought I might work on my tan too. I made my way to the hotel (I am at the Wyndham) and checked in. I then went over and caught the bus to the OCCC. I haven't been here since the last Tech*Ed. I think the convention is in an entirely different ...
Scott Kurtz the guy behind the PVP comic that deals with the lives of the crew of a gaming magazine depicts his interpretation of how the first 3 star wars movies should have been http://www.pvponline.com/ar... Theres something in that depiction George ...
First Post with the New Host...Hello everyone. A bit of background info...My name is Justin Brown, and I'm a 29yr old Developer/Technologist living in Peterborough, Ontario (Canada, eh!). I have a 7yr old son, who is absolutely addicted to gaming with his Gamecube and Custom PC (little guy keeps ganking my gamepad when I'm not looking). I'm also getting married this summer, and expecting another little one at the end of November.... Like most deep-geeks, I started tinkering with systems at an early ...
Well, I am home now from E3. What an exhausting trip. I couldn't sleep on the Red Eye coming home so I got about 1 hour sleep in 36. I am more rested up now and ready to head back to work in the morning. Thursday at E3 I spent most of the day on the floor of the Expo. Trying to soak in as much as I could. I finally go to go to the Midway and Atari shows. Midway was terrible but Atari was pretty good. They where giving away the best T-Shirts of the show with the “In the beginning there was PONG” ...

While I'm at TechEd 2005...

aside from the speaker sessions, and my time as an INETA volunteer, I defintely want to check out some of this cool stuff:

TechEd events: http://www.msteched.com/content/events.aspx

Especially the AMD PC Gaming competition, and the free night at Universal Studios!!

Well, can you believe it!? I am headed off to the E3 Expo Monday morning (May 16th) http://www.e3expo.com/index... . Me and a friend will be flying to Los Angeles and spending Monday - Thursday looking at the latest technology in the Gaming industry. I will be researching for a future game I am designing (more about that later). It should be really cool. The show is closed to the public so it is a real inside look. I will be posting daily reports from the show here on this blog, so check back daily ...

Well here I am officially blogging.  It is my desire to discuss a variety of topic from gaming to programming.  I hope you will check out often what is going on here in Dana's blog.  Thanks for reading!!!

I think Asheron's Call was perhaps Microsoft Gaming Studios' biggest mistake. What do I mean by that? Asheron's Call was developed by some amazing guys who basically built their company, Turbine Games, from scratch. Their first project was so excellent that Microsoft signed on to distribute, host, and publish the game. Initially the game met with very good success. It's still legendary as one of the only games in the genre to have a 100% successful launch. But after a couple years, Microsoft put ...
Awhile ago I posted that I sensed the demise of the Nintendo LameBoy monopoly. Well, I may be exagerrating since I do believe Nintendo has staying power and may be able to step up to the plate. The Sony PSP however is one serious gaming machine. Here's my PSP story: The day before the PSP was to be released, I had to run into Fred Meyer (for those that don't know, it's one of those time sucking stores that has everything you need...time sucking in the sense that you walk in and leave in 5 minutes ...
Well, well, well. According to this article, Microsoft is getting ready to release a Tablet-PC Gaming SDK. Very interesting, indeed.
Every once in awhile, I just like to spout off my current gaming habit...err...status. Here goes again. 1. Half-Life 2: Finished it. Did I like it? Let's just say it has gone to the top of my list of all time favorite games which is quite something. Basically, this game is a masterpiece pure and simple. No other game has captivated me like this one has. It was non-stop thrills a minute. In fact, words can't even describe how awesome this game is. I frequently made this comment to many people: You ...
I know some of you have seen my post on how I would not be happy with Half-Life 2(HL2) when it came out and the other part of post on how I could not put down the controller when playing Halo 2. Only on of these is true, I can not put down the controller while playing halo 2. When I first got Halo 2 I actually took the rest of the week off from work to play it. I lived off of bottles of Bawls and Pizza for 6 days and played it for at least 18-20 hours a day for 4 of those 6 days. With Halo 2 I don't ...
I have become quite lazy off late. I caught up with the WIX chat only after Rob posted the link on his blog. I was glad to find out that WIX was going to get integrated into Visual Studio.NET and there would be a MSBUILD task for WIX in Visual Studio .NET 2005. Very interesting indeed. Read the Windows Installer chat transcript for more information. There has been a lot of commotion in the wix-users list about a good tool that generates WIX code for us. It was really encouraging to find out that ...
Ok so I have been reading some of my post on games and I noticed I'm being anti gaming for some reason right now. So to turn this around I thought I would write abit about Close Combat: First to Fight since I am actually waiting for it to show up. I went to EBX to get it when it was going to be released on Oct 26 and was pissed to find out it was pushed back to jan 18th 2005. Anyways the team has been keeping the world happy by releaseing screenshots and videos. On that note they have released another ...
Last holiday season I watched the out pouring from the gaming community when Gabe & Tycho of Penny Arcade fame decided to start a charity event. This year they are doing it again and it looks like it will outshine last years event. They have included 5 chirlderns hosiptals in this yeas event 1 in Washington, 2 in Califorina, 1 in Texas, and 1 in Washington DC, and this year they are doing a Child's Play Fundrasier Dinner Auction on December 9th in Bellevue, Washington. You can visit there site ...
This list is for Tejas, in responce to his post, but anyone may find it usefull. Here is a list of my favorite podcasts, most are of higher-quality than others, but I find them all interesting! You need to, at the very least, listen to AdamCurry's Daily Source Code. Its has a high production value, and is leading the way for everyone else, almost everyone in podcasting registers to his feed. Adam Curry: The Daily Source CodeRss: http://radio.weblogs.com/00... ...
It’s not as hard as you think. A few years back, all I knew about computers was on the software side of things. I am a developer and have been programming since I was twelve. I never considered doing anything on the hardware side of things myself. I remember the computer I bought in 1994 cost me $3,800. Computers today are not that expensive, but they still are pricey, BUT I AM HERE TO TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN EASILY BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER. It is easier than doing a puzzle … really. Here ...
In a few years, will there be no John Carmack involved in the gaming industry anymore? There is an interview in the Game Over column on CNN.com where John Carmack hints that after the next iD project, he might retire. Of course, there were rumors that he would retire after Doom 3 also, and now he has signed on for another project post-Doom 3. If John Carmack does retire though, I think the gaming industry will be losing one of its brightest programmers. Granted, I don't believe that iD as a company ...
It always seems that disk drives fail at the most inopportune time. Of course, there never really is a good time. This failure has kept me too busy recently with the recovery process. I had backups, but they were elderly, so the disk is off for a clean room recovery process. What is especially irritating is that the failed disk is a nearly new Western Digital Caviar 160GB EIDE hard drive. It was manufactured September 30, 2003, installed in our SOHO server in late November 2003, and failed last week. ...
I was just thinking today that my good old GeForce 4 that I have at home is comming close to retirement, and its about time I replaced it. But the question that is dancing around my mind is "with what?" The question of whether to go with an ATI or NVidia could be something as close to being as sacred as the question of 'would you buy an Evolution or Impreza WRX' - well may be not, the "Evolution or Impreza" is totally a matter of opinion with minute similarities, but the dillema is that it increasingly ...
Here's a few cool things to take a look at if your a gamer. 1. Computer Gaming World (the best PC gaming magazine) launched a new gaming site called 1up.com. Looks like they're in the process of launching it still which means you can't seem to register yet. Going to keep my eye on it. Initial impressions are that it's full of advertising, so we'll see if the content is worth it. 2. Warhammer 40k fans may want to consider getting in the Warhammer 40k Dawn of War beta. I'm not a big fan of RTS's, but ...

Arrests have been made in perhaps the biggest gaming news story last year, the theft of the next Half-Life game.  I for one didn't really care for the first one for some reason, but the next one looks extremely good. Anyway, here's the story link:

Justin King blogged about Amazon's new search engine. I looked at it, installed their very Google like toolbar and tried it out. The SiteInfo popups on the search results page were cool. Then I clicked on the toolbar button that said “mark@schmidt6.com's History” and lo and behold, I was taken to http://a9.com/-/search/edit... and their I saw all the websites I had just visited after installing the toolbar. No way. Maybe the toolbar is intercepting the http response and filling in ...
