Just found this completely free <a href=www.123dox.com>online OCR tool</a>. It appears to be somekind demo, but works fine! I tried PNG, GIF, PDF (even image as PDF) and it reads them without fuss. Only minor mistakes.

Just wonder why no-one has done this before?
