Ah...of couse.  How silly of me...how intuitive.

Symptoms

You want to insert text from another document into the document that you are working on, but you can't find the Insert File command.

Cause

The Insert File command has been renamed Text from File and moved to the Object menu on the Insert tab in Microsoft Office Word 2007.

Resolution

Use the Insert tab to access the Text from File command.

This Word 7 version is driving me crazy. I finally got tired of trying to figure this out and my Word Help is giving me an error. Thanks very much for posting this! Have a great day!

Thank you so much for that really useful tip. They don't even make the object tab easy to find, do they!

But I want to embed a document within another. E.g. "For more information, see the attached document below:", then a link to the document. I used to be able to do this, with an option of embedding the entire attachment within the word doc, or providing a link.

How do I do this in word 2007?

Been trying to find an answer for this for a long time and finally figured it out! To insert a Word 2007 file into another Word document, open the document (that the second doc will be inserted into). In the Menu bar, select Insert. In the Text tab, click the down arrow next to Object. Select Object. Click the tab Create from File. Click Browse to select the file/document you want to insert into the first document. Highlight the file/document name and click Insert. Check the box to Display as Icon. Click OK. Your second file is inserted into the first file and you will see the Word document icon. Just double click it to open the embedded file.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Debbie, you have saved at least a portion of my sanity.
I am developing the very firm theory that there is a special level in hell reserved for the developers of Office 2007.

This works great for files, but I'm trying to insert and edit a table from another document. I can use the Object>Insert, or copy and paste, but when the table comes in, I cannot add rows using the Layout>Insert rows above command. ???

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately, Word only inserts the first page of the file in Word 2007.

I don't want to insert the text of the file, I want to insert the Word link to the file to save space. How do I do that?

If you want to insert a fine to doc.7, then click on the "Insert" tap. Under Insert Tap you will see "Object" button. Once you clink on "object" a pop-up window will comes up. Select "Create from File" and browse the file:)

Do not like the hidden ways to create a document in Word 2007 that was so easy in Word 2003. Obviously the developers knew better than the common users, how people were using word. UGH! Which is my opinion says developers again don't care about the end users.

The Object, then insert, did not work so am back to copy and paste to get what I want and had in Word 2003.

... select Insert. In the Text tab, click the down arrow next to Object. Select Object. WHAT AND WHERE IS THE OBJECT AFTER I CLICK INSERT? Click the tab Create from File. Click Browse to select the file/document you want to insert into the first document

When you insert a file, there used to be an option to "keep source formatting" What happened to that? Also, why does the insert only give you the first page of your inserted source document?

i have been doing medical transciptioin for over 20 years. This program is not user friendly. Things that i used to do in a few key strokes now takes SEVERAL points and clicks with the mouse. I don't use the mouse if i can avoid it. I CAN ACTUALLY TYPE WITH POINTING AND CLICKING. The mouse is for folks who do not type over 100 wpm, like me.....
