Perth & Margaret River

Whoops - The Slight Detour on the way to India !!!!

Well .. as most of you know, there was a slight detour on the way to India ... whoops somehow I ended up in Perth !!!

It has been so good to be back home on 'holiday' and I can't tell you how wonderful it has been to see my sons, friends and family again.

I asked my sister to organise lunch with the boys as a friend was dropping off a suprise from Nepal .. LOL the suprise was me ... I so nearly let it slip a few times before I left that I just had to lay low before I blew it. After lunch it was off to dinner to suprise Vick ... now you all missed her just standing there speechless .. quite a sight I tell you.

I just have to thank Rod so much, he picked me up from the airport, ran me straight to the hairdressers and after we had caught up with all the family he took me off to Margaret River for a couple of days R&R and of course I had to do some work on my bad case of DWDS ( Decent Wine Deficiency Syndrome ) ....

Since then I have been floating all over the place. I haven't managed to spend the night twice at the same place yet ... thank goodness I'm getting good at bumming beds.

The general plan is to stay here till the end of Jan as I need to catch up on a few things, then its back to Nepal and pretty much straight off to India .. see I really am going .. I'll then head back to Nepal and sometime over the next few months we are also planning a bike trip through Thailand and Burma .. I know, its a hard life but someones gotta do it !!!!!!!

Lyrics to some special songs for some special people

I'm finally getting my act together and doing a few things on the site. Most of you know how nuts I am about my music and I before I left I dedicated a song or two to some special people. ie. let the songs speak for me, because they can say it so much better than me. Sound a damn sight better too ....

I was going to get the lyrics to them, but ran out of time before I left, so I have included them as articles.

The most important one is La Mar by The Beautiful Girls. This for my sons. By a stroke of good luck The Beautiful Girls where playing in Margaret River the weekend we went down there. I asked if they would play this song with a dedication to the boys. Along we all went to The Settlers Tavern and sat through night and no La Mar. I was pretty disappointed, so when they said it was their last song we all headed out to get a taxi home. In typical fashion, it wasn't really their last song and as we are waiting for the taxi, yep, you guessed it, we could hear La Mar ... bugger. Well, the thought was there.

The next song, Crash and Burn, is for my wonderful friend, confidante, drinking & dancing partner, shoulder to cry on, person to laugh with and so many other things. Love you and miss you Vick xxxxoooooxxxxxx.

Last but not least is Seeing Angels by John Butler . This is for a friend who has helped me through so many things and still speaks to me despite all my baggage, bad days, good days and has motivated me to become a better person. (Don't know if its working, but hey, I'm trying)

I owe so much to each and every one of these people and I wouldn't be where I am today without their support. From the bottom of my heart, thankyou for being who you are and for being there.

The Margaret River Weekend

Its getting closer, so a trip down to Margaret River seemed the ideal way to have a great goodbye weekend and a run up to my baby's 21st. For those that don't know Perth, Margaret River is what we refer to as 'down south'. It is a wonderful area full of fantastic wineries, damn I'm going to be lost without all my yummy Margaret River wines, but thats the whole purpose of travelling, I'm sure I'll find some good replacements. So, house rented for the weekend and what a marvelous place, 7 bedrooms, 2 living areas, gourment kitchen (nice to look at, but cook ... huh you have got to be kidding), with a view to die for overlooking the ocean. It was kick back in the deck chairs, grab a glass of white and just enjoy .. What a great weekend, we all piled in a taxi and headed off to Settlers Tavern on Friday night to see 'The Beautiful Girls' .. another one of my 'alternative' aussie bands. Unfortunately the acoustics at Settlers wasn't too great, but the company was the best. Saturday off to the caves, 300 odd stairs .. I did make it, but this trip is going to be very character building :-) And what a better way to end the day than to make a few more winery visits. Somehow my one bottle turned into three and the star award has to go to the Lenton Brae Sem Sav Blanc, absolutely fantastic. A very close second with highly honourable mentions are the Vasse Felix Classic Dry, always a nice drop and the Jane Moss Sem Sav Blanc .. Well they should keep me busy over the next week. Just a tad heavy to try and fit in the backpack.... Sunday we all packed up, found another winery or two on the way home, and .. the Margaret River Chocolate Factory .. you don't want to know how much I spent there, but wine and chocolate are going to feature strongly in my diet this week ..

The Prequel - 3 weeks to go and counting down

Three weeks to go and counting down before I leave. As per my usual style, I am way behind in doing things, but hey .. they didnt invent the phrase " If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would get done" for nothing. At least I have my passport, visa, tickets and backpack organised. Of course I had the gadgets ready way beforehand, have to get your priorities straight. Powerbook, iPod, camera and phone are ready and waiting. I'm really glad I decided to spend a week in Melbourne first, will need some time to recover from the last 3 weeks of partying. Its damn hard work saying goodbye to everyone. Will be interesting to actually see how much sleep I do get in Melbourne !!
