The Ramblings of Sharon

Like a plant that starts up in showers and sunshine and does not know which has best helped it to grow, it is difficult to say whether the hard things or the pleasant things did me the most good - Lucy Larcom

The second I saw this picture I fell in love with it. I seemed to have this affinity with it and after I did some research on Israfel it all made sense.

I am totally in awe of Stephanies work, if you need some beauty & magic then have a browse through her site.

Where do I start ? After Wednesday's fiasco it really was the straw so to speak, had myself a little meltdown, came to realise a few things about myself and also what I need to do, this whole learning process is a never ending thing. It's never easy, well for me anyway, to wake up to some things about yourself, but life manages to make you see it whether you want to or not. After a good release ( otherwise known as a good bawl, come on guys, I can feel you cringing already .. but you know, for us its a good thing. All you have to do is provide a shoulder and a hug or two, no solutions, just some comfort and we get it out of our systems and all is right in the world again ), now where was I, okay, I got myself together, went for a good walk and started looking for a new place.

I found a nice hotel apartment on the other side of town and will be moving there some time this week. Its even on the net, so I don't have to take any photo's. Of course a kitchen is a total waste for me, but hey its got a nice size fridge to hold the two major food groups, wine & chocolate. I still get the daily cleaning service thrown in, so I don't have to worry about becoming 'domestic'. ( I know, I'm slack, but you can't fix everything at once, I'll leave that one for another day ). Its been full on at work all week, we had fund raising lunches on Mon, Tue, Fri & Sun, early starts, late finishes, so I was going to have a quiet weekend.

On Friday, I was talking to Sharmita ( from work ) about music and next thing I know I'm going to see one of Nepal's favourite bands, 1974AD. What a great night, we went to dinner first with a few of her family then off to the Hyatt Regency for the show. Met up with a few more members of the family and thouroughly enjoyed the music and the atmosphere. Her uncle gave me the quick translation of the songs as we were going along, even though music is such a universal language, it was nice to also know what the songs meant. It occurred to me, that music is probably going to be the easiest way for me to learn some of the langauge. Songs are always something I remember. As always, when you are having a good time, no-one wanted to stop, so it was off to the Yak & Yeti Club for some dancing. Didn't end up getting home until after 2 and had to wake the hotel up to let me in .. oh to be popular.

Feeling a bit worse for wear on Saturday, I went and picked up my top from Thamel and came home to rest. How sad is that, I'm getting out of practice .. will have to do something about that ! There I was having a nice rest and I get a call from Maggie inviting me to the local International/American Schools 50th Anniversay bash. It was a quick shower, throw on the face and out again. It was a really big night and very well done. Maggie is married to a Nepali and has lived here for many years. She is actively involved in many businesses and groups and I met so many people that I had no chance of remembering who's who, well there was one or two that I remembered mostly because they have been in the news here, but lets just say, I will be better off saving the stories about that for when I get home. Another big dinner, another bar and after the presentations some more dancing.

It was a very reluctant early rise this morning for work, just made it to the bus and had to get the girls to rejig my sari when I got there. Luckily it held up on the way. I think I've got a handle on it now, its the last bit I keep getting wrong, but will see how I do on my own next time. I really couldn't be bothered do any database or web work, so I volunteered to do the flowers. Now theres something I love doing and there are so many beautiful flowers here, it is such a joy to do the arrangements. Their garden is fairly new and the flowers came out of someone elses garden, but the last vase was just missing something, so much to the gardners horror, there I was out there snipping off bits to 'finish' the arrangements. The presentation went well and another big meal, I feel like I don't need to eat for at least a week. The fund raising lunches have been beautiful all week, the Tewa volunteers really did such a fantastic job cooking up huge batches of all the local dishes.

Got home just after 5 and I really wanted to go to tonights show of the week long music festival that is going on, but arghhhh I feel like crap. I've been fighting off a sore throat all week, my eyes are sore and scratchy, I'm sneezing and I'm just so tired. Its either a cold or a you beaut sinus attack, either way I don't really want it so I'm trying to will it away. I really should be packing too, somehow I've managed to collect a bit of 'extra' stuff since I've been here. LOL, so instead I'm sitting here typing, getting ready for that early night and putting it off until tomorrow.
