The Ramblings of Sharon

Like a plant that starts up in showers and sunshine and does not know which has best helped it to grow, it is difficult to say whether the hard things or the pleasant things did me the most good - Lucy Larcom

The second I saw this picture I fell in love with it. I seemed to have this affinity with it and after I did some research on Israfel it all made sense.

I am totally in awe of Stephanies work, if you need some beauty & magic then have a browse through her site.

And yet another day cancelled. I know I said I wanted to slow down, but not this much !!! The curfew is still on, but at least the shops where allowed to open for a couple of hours (apparently they did yesterday too, but I didnt know about it), so at least I have supplies in.

The media here is already calling it 1/11 and Black Wednesday. Personally I'm not sure how locking people up in their houses for 3 or more days is going to make people calm, I would think it would have the reverse effect. It must be seriously hurting the economy and particularly the street traders and smaller shops. Earning a living is hard enough day to day, so when you can't earn it must be devestating. Obviously there is no such thing as insurance or government benefits here. From what I have read and heard, I think the government just doesn't want to deal with it, so rather than do something constructive, they just lock everyone up and hope it will go away. There is quite a bit of speculation as to whether the riots where spontaneous or planned. Considering the huge number of Nepali's that have been killed in the internal Maoist fighting, why would the death of 12, as appalling as it is, by the Iraqui's create this mayhem.

I'm just going to have to make the most of this little unplanned rest, so it's maintenance day today. Once they lift the curfew, at least I will be ready to face they world with nice nails and hair :-). I also asked if there was somewhere to sit outside and found out they have a bit of a place up on the roof. So will head up there later with a book and get some fresh air.

Ahhh the thrill of life in remote and exotic places ......
