The Ramblings of Sharon

Like a plant that starts up in showers and sunshine and does not know which has best helped it to grow, it is difficult to say whether the hard things or the pleasant things did me the most good - Lucy Larcom

The second I saw this picture I fell in love with it. I seemed to have this affinity with it and after I did some research on Israfel it all made sense.

I am totally in awe of Stephanies work, if you need some beauty & magic then have a browse through her site.

Moni had to cancel so I decided to actually go and do some shopping and get some suitable clothes. First things first, I seriously had to get some money. There are quite a few ATM's around now ( the one down the road translates this to 'Any Time Money', had a giggle at that one ) , so off I trotted and put in the good old credit card. Just to make sure nothing happens, there are guards and/or soldiers with guns protecting you at the ATM's. Quite an unsettling feeling.

You just shouldn't let a girl loose with 10000 rupees. OK, I used the calculator this time, thats about US$130. For this I got a nice top, one shop bought sari and another 2 are being made up or tailored if you please, for me. Western dress is quite acceptable these days, and a lot of the young ones now wear jeans etc, but they are so hot and uncomfortable. The punjabi style trousers (see I'm getting into the lingo) are nice and floaty and very light and comfortable. As a bonus, the 'tops' could also be worn as sexy dresses with nice slits up the sides when I get to a more westernised country .. well hopefully the legs will be worth showing by then. Not bad ... and I've still got plenty of change. Walked most of the day again, damn this is getting to be a bad habit. Taxi drivers keep stopping to see if I want a lift. They think I'm some mad woman wanting to walk everywhere .. heheheh little do they know. Its so much better walking though, you get to have a leisurely look at everything and I keep finding all these wonderful little spots off the main roads as I wander down the alleys. Ah well, once I put my sari's on they might think I'm a local and stop bothering me .. will keep you posted on that one .. I'm sure I'll just blend right in :)

I'm thinking that these daily posts are going to get rather boring, so I'll probably cut them down to weekly now or when something special happens. I can't wait till I get my own net connection as I really don't like using the net cafe things and even with my own PC the ports seem to be blocked for IMAP and irc. I did ask, but the guy at the counter just looked very strangely at me and didn't seem to have a clue. Mind you, in all the cafe's I have tried, they are using Win98 and nothing is locked down .. could have some fun .... or not ?
