Yukon Service Broker - Poor Man's Indigo

On the road to Indigo...( thats Richard Turner..right??) you will pass through Yukon Service Broker. The Service broker is a set of services on the data base layer that provide the framework for distributed, aysnchronous message based database applications.

I got really excited when i saw this, we can actually build service oriented applications today just by writing a couple of T-SQL statements. Yes you read it right. Now you can decouple your applications and distribute them over time spans and geographies and export them as services on a network just by using T-SQL.

Its actually powerfull stuff. Pat Helland ( of Metropolis Fame) is the architect of this rather cool piece of infrastructure.

If you want to learn the aspects of Indigo, but dont know where to go...learn the concepts by using Yukon Service Broker. Yukon is in its second beta and comfortably stable.

Get started on Service Broker, get a feel of how a SOA app should work...experiment...burn the midnight oil...its well worth the investment.

A million dollar Easter Egg! Not Quite...

There has been a mail that goes on to say that there is a mysterious bug in Microsoft Word and no one in the product team knows why.

Before you guys put on your thinking caps, roll up your sleeves and jump into debugging.....GUYS! HOLD YOUR GUNS.

Apparently ( as per the explanation by my good friend Vinh Pham), this is just as Easter Egg. There are a lot others who believe this is a support tool to get in a lot of text into word.

Dont know what i am talking about??? Guys are you working on planet mars...arent you on your email??

Just Joking. There is this =Rand(x,y) that you can type into word and as you press enter..VIOLA...there is a huge amount of “A quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” text that gets created for you...the mail asks you to type in =Rand(200,99) and suddenly your word document grows to mulitpages..with repeating text.

The explanation that i gathered suggest that this is the simplext way to fill up your document with a shit load of text ( apart from Ctrl+C;Ctrl+V off course!!).

So relax guys. =Rand(x,y) is equivalent to saying that type in x paragraphs with y sentences each!

so it is equal to Rand(# of Paragraphs, # of sentences in each paragraph). Dont believe me..try out =Rand(1,2) and = Rand(2,1) and test it out for yourself!

Time Off

I have been taking time off to get some perspective. I havent yet started my Indigo digging yet. I was at the Software Architect Forum last week and when someone asked me what Indigo was, I told them it might be a color. I have been thinking if i am doing justice to the heading that I have on this blog.

But i know the time will come. I will be able to write about my experiments with Indigo...

I made full use of the long weekend to get to a beautiful place called Muthodi. No electricity, no heat, no pollution. Its such a great pleasure to eat things cooked on a fire. Even the tea tastes different and smokey.

I guess i have been getting a lot of view on the Infopath on Pocket PC post. Keep it up folks. Tell me what you feel about my blogs. I will write more and more intersting stuff that i discover in my quest for Indigo!

BTW, Indigo is a mechanism for making different programs exchange messages?? Or is it??

Infopath on PocketPC

Yesterday, i was in a meeting discussing the offline block. We were trying to come out with an elegant solution for offline mode for participating in a workflow.

The idea that came up was for infopath to be available on a pocket pc, so instead of having some obscure workitems, why cant we download the infopath forms on to the PocketPC and work from there...If there can be a pocket word and pocket Excel, why not Pocket Infopath??

Well, i discovered that our discovery of a new usage for Infopath was not that new!!! There were a couple of posts on this that google returned. But I was disappointed to understand that Infopath product groups does not have this on their radar?? WHY GUYS? Dont you think it will be cool to have infopath on the Pocket PC...

Why are they not coming up with a PocketPC InfoPath? InfoPocket?? My guess is as good as yours...

Hello World!

I have been wanting to blog for a long time. But didn't know how or where or what.

Enter Geeks with Blogs. I liked the name. I think I am a kind of half geek, half engineer (half geek + half engineer = full hopeless²) I spend my days exploring the virtual jungles of Microsoft technologies, most of the time i am on some tried and tested trails of SharePoint, .NET and Application Architecture. Every once in a while i venture deep into the depths of virgin, new and yet to be explored areas.

I am a TechnoTrekker! This is my journal where i would record my discoveries ( they are my discoveries, dont care if some others have discovered it already...there is still a joy associated with re-discovering..discovering for yourself..).
