Thanksgiving with Hurricaine Steve

I certainly worked as hard as a hurricaine this week. Wednesday I hired a couple of guys and a truck to come out and help haul some crap to the dump, Goodwill and the Salvation Army. Thursday, I packed up a bunch more stuff, made two more trips to my pod, went to thanksgiving at a friends, and hired someone to come over and help me rearrange the house and move yet more stuff off to storage. Friday and Saturday I made even more trips to my pod. On Saturday and Sunday I got call, after call, after call from realtors wanting to show my house. Each time I had to leave the house. I did all of this while having my son for the weekend. My son would get real excited and wanted to show the house off... "yeah, it's even got TWO bathtubs." Of course I have THREE, but he doesn't use/know of the full bath downstairs.

Phew, I am so tired... but it looks like it all worked out. My home had two offers in two days... not bad in a down market - during the winter. But I did sweeten the deal with a $7000 concession for a new carpet and an asking price of $15000 less than probable market. My buyer will probably make $30000 right off the top within a few months, so they got a GREAT deal.

Now its time to relax... and by relax I mean pick up a tux for my company's holiday party and drop off my car for an oil change. Of course, I'm not out of the woods yet. Now I've got to focus on getting a new job. I've put myself before our internal assignments panel and hope to have an option by COB on Tuesday (when they meet). I'm not very optimistic about that though since my company has yet to really discover .NET (very few contracts we have use it - and we don't seek out contracts for it). It's a shame really... eight years at a single company, with potentially no future because I want to be a .NET programmer.

Maybe I'll get lucky. Who knows? Maybe they will have a .NET job where I can listen to my iPod and stretch out my wings to learn even more as a software engineer. With 5 weeks vacation per year at my company... I'm hoping I don't have to leave to get it. Sigh... here's to dreamin' of a better life.
