OS X UI Inconsistency

I decided to catch up on my DrunkenBlog reading this evening, and I came across this little blurb from ThinkMac: [Is] Apple's UI department going insane? In it, Rory Prior says:

Come on Apple, at this rate Windows users might actually be pointing and laughing at us for how bad our UI looks by the time Longhorn ships...

I've said this for quite some time (albeit on my old blog) here, here and here. There aren't many that seem to agree, but apparently a couple more now do. Drunkenbatman:

No, for anything to really change at this point it would take noise. A lot of noise, from many directions, and many people. Yet no one is really making any.

I'm ready to join the drunkenbatman call to arms. Are you?

Apple, please fix your UI. Make it consistent. I prefer the brushed-metal UI, but not a half-ass one. Why can't you make all windows the same? Then you could make it user selectable via a system-wide theme (or ShapeShifter). Either way: STOP HALF-ASSING YOUR UI. Mail still looks like crap (whether you like brushed-metal or not), and application inconsistency is contrary to the whole Apple concept. FIX IT.
