Recently my boss (a CIO) asked me to look at the X1 Search Engine. Specifically he's looking to know how it could fit within the organization... basically is it worth it? My kneejerk response was to point out that Google has the free Desktop Search Engine in beta... and really, what's better than Google for searching?
Scoble has almost done my job for me... because I have come to trust him and his opinions. He recently posted a blueprint on how to perform a review of the major desktop search engines. I'll be playing with them soon. I've been avoiding desktop search products because I haven't had a need for them... plus I use OSX at home. Tiger will have some cool stuff coming, so I guess there is no reason for me to look at them for personal use (even if I thought I needed desktop search).
I wonder if the big news (beta unveiling) today is going to be about an MSN Desktop Search... Scoble says to look for the info at 1030 over at Channel 9 and the MSN Search Blog (they have a blog?).
Neowin seems to think that the big beta announcement is going to be MSN Desktop Search. I must of missed their original post almost a month ago on the subject.
The Toolbar Suite is currently in internal dogfood testing under the codename "Monarch". [...] The Toolbar suite will be available here at around [Noon EST today].
