So I decided to surprise my parents for Thanksgiving. After years in the military, then a failed marriage (that required all of my attention to be showered unequally on my in-laws)... it's been about 14 years since I last spent this holiday with them. So I figured a surprise was in order.
One thing I didn't really anticipate... holiday travel (something I never do). Traffic was great for DC... it only took me about 15 minutes to get to Dulles. Then about 5 minutes to get through baggage check-in. After a quick 25 minutes going through the security choke point, I was on my way to the terminal. So far so good, right? Not. That's when the real fun began... It appeared that my plane had been delayed by a full hour and a half, and everyone was concerned about their connections. I know this because we were all in the same line! After about an hour standing in a very short line (obviously incompetent personnel - 4 of them actually), I found out that my connection in Cincinnati was also delayed. Phew.
After a quick flight with the Nazi flight attendant, who echoes the FAA's completely, absolutely illogical fear of iPods... I arrived in Cincinnati (in what appeared to be a third-world airport because we walked out onto the tarmac before entering the terminal) to find that the monitor showed that my plane had not been delayed. WTF?
So I ran through the terminal... took the bus... walked a 1/2 mile... only to discover that my plane was actually delayed. WTF is wrong with this airport?! Turns out my flight was delayed by TWO hours.
Here I sit... watching the beautiful women - because why would I watch ugly ones? Heh.
After a sleep over at my brothers new townhouse in Birmingham and a four hour drive, I finally made it to my parents house (in Crestview, FL) at ~ 12:30p. Their failure is complete now. [Darth Vader] They had no idea... lol.
First thing my mom... "Hey, fix our computer". Followed closely by my dad, "It's too damn hard. Fix it." Well, a geeks work is never done. <g>
Happy Thanksgiving everybody!
