Audiovox SMT-5600

I've been looking to get my hands on this smartphone for some time. [My first post on my old blog on this phone goes back to August 18th, 2004].

For awhile there... I thought several carriers were going to carry it. Turns out only AT&T Wireless began carrying it sometime back in October, 2004. I've intended to go into a store to check it out, but was waiting on Cingular to take over AT&T Wireless, so I could get access to the better plans (1000 anytime minutes with rollover!).

Then I heard that the AT&T Wireless stores closed overnight... and woke up as Cingular stores the following day. Cool. I figured it was time to hit a Cingular store to pick one up.

Too bad, this was just a pipe dream... as Cingular will not be carrying the Audiovox SMT-5600. In fact current customers are stranded, and apparently are being told to upgrade to Cingular phones before they shut off the AT&T Wireless network (maybe they switching frequencies on the towers?).

Never fear, when the corporate megalopolies screw us over... an intrepid developer will rise from our ranks to spank the man, and bring power to the people.

Uh, no. Cingular *will* be carrying the SMT5600, and there is never any need to "switch networks" between Cingular and ATTWS.

They are compatible and are being combined into one. Both work with all Cingular/ATTWS devices.

Then why has every one quit selling the 5600 saying it was made for AT&T technology, and that it has been taken off the market temporarily till they can make some adjustments?

I have a 5600. Cingular won't let me switch fron ATT to Cingular! "It won't work with the towers." BS!

Does anyone knows if Audiovox will release an upgrade soon? Cause I'm on Orange SPV C500 and I would try to upgrade this one to the SMT5600 ROM for WMP 10...

Does anyone know if this phone is coming bacck to CINGULAR. From everything I read, this is THE PHONE to get, and out performs the MPx220. Hmmm... maybe that's the problem.... it's better than the Motorola phones and there are deals that have been made...

Yes...the word is that they will be reintroducing it into the Cingular phone line...this is coming directly from Cingular. now if you want, u can unlock the phone and use it...I do...I was att and it works fine

unlocked it and input the internet settings. Works awesome. Works better if I set my network to AT&T though in my area.

Looks now that the MPx220 are the ones being fazed out, and the Audiovox 5600 the replacements.

So many people have wanted to return the MPx220 that they are on a huge backorder list. So Cingular is just swaping them out for the AudioVox's instead.

Moto doesn't even list the MPx220 out front on their site, or on cingulars, you gotta do a bit of digging to find it.

That can't be good.

i just got this phone and i dont know nothing about this, i just put in my sim card and its cingular, and its saying i need a unlock code or something can someone help me, what do i do?

Cingular just came out with the same 5600 its called the 2125- they still cannot unlock the 5600 and want you to purchase the 2125 even though its the same
