If you are attempting to access a blocked file type in SharePoint 2007, you will receive the following error:

The following file(s) have been blocked by the administrator

The following describes how to resolve the issue:

  1. Browse to the Central Admin site
  2. Select the Operations tab
  3. Under the Security Configuration section, click the link for Blocked file types
  4. Select the Web Application that you would like to modify from the drop down list
  5. Each blocked file extension displayed in the list is blocked by SharePoint.  To enable the blocked file extension, simply remove it from the list.
Hope that helps!

Below is the link that tells there are 2 places you have to remove the file types you want to unblock. Unfortunately I was not able to remove the unblock file type in the application list as stated below.

How to remove unblock file type in the application list?

Unblocking blocked files
Update (Sep 13, 2007):
You can remove a blocked filetype from the SharePoint Central Administration. There is no such thing as global list. Ignore the message that is shown in SharePoint Central Administration ( .... you must remove it from both global and web application lists).
---
To allow a file type that is currently blocked, you must remove it from both the global and Web application lists. This is a very common question asked by the users. If removing the file extension from SharePoint Central Administration does not unblock the file, then you must remove it from the web application as well. Change the application in the "web application" drop down by clicking the arrow and selecting "Change web application" and then remove the file type from the list of blocked files.

I assume this is an IIS 404 error that you're getting. If that's the case, have you run any specific security lock down procedures that might be preventing the .NET runtime from processing the web service request?

That would be my first guess, but it doesn't sound like something that is specific to SharePoint.

Hi,

tested it. Do I have to restart MOSS och IIS?
Nothing seems to happen after changes in the web application (defual port 80).
