HTML input types
As web developers and consumers, we’re all familiar with the HTML <input> tag. This is the tag that renders on the screen as an input text box. However, as developers you may not be familiar with all of the “new” HTML 5 values for the type attribute. If you’re not, you should be sure to check them out…and start using them in your websites today! By the way, there is a reason for the word “new” to be in quotations and for the bolded part of that last sentence. The great thing about the way all ......

appRequests in the 2013 MVP Summit Showcase
For those of you who may not know, appRequests is the umbrella brand for WP Requests and WinStore Requests. These sites are designed to allow you to add or vote for your favorite non-Microsoft app to come to either the Windows Phone or Windows Store platforms. It’s a great way to show companies that there really is an interest in seeing official apps. Not seeing the app you want in the Windows or Windows Phone Store? Here is you’re opportunity to request applications on the Windows platform as a ......

An Open Letter to Mint.com
Windows Phone has now been out for just over a year and Mint.com has had four active threads on their support forums for almost the same amount of time (here, here, here, and here). Out of the four requests, only two have an actual status and they contradict each other, with one saying it is “not planned” and the other saying it is “under consideration”. In addition, the last response from any Mint.com employee was over 4 months ago. These requests, assuming no duplicate votes, have gained a total ......

Windows Phone Marketplace Requests Custom Statuses
Thanks to the UserVoice team for enabling custom statuses on Windows Phone Marketplace Requests! I have added a few additional statuses (I’m still working out exactly what makes the most sense), but the biggest change is to the Declined status. Previously, when a request was marked as Declined, all voting was closed. I was using this status for several different reasons: To show that the request was off-topic, either because it belonged on the Windows Phone Suggestion Box or because it was a feature/enhancement ......

MVP Spotlight
Each week, the different MVP Leads send out an email communication to their MVPs letting us know about upcoming events and other things relevant to us. As part of that newsletter, an individual MVP is often highlighted. This week, I’m the featured MVP! Thanks, Heather, for spotlighting me and the Windows Phone Marketplace Requests site ......

Updates on the Windows Phone Marketplace Requests
Just 3 days ago, I launched the Windows Phone Marketplace Requests site. Since that time, the response has been staggering, to say the least. At the time the screenshot above was captured, there are 600 active ideas and 3,228 active users. In an effort to help keep the site organized and usable, I have added some general guidelines for submitting requests. Remember, there is just one person maintaining this site so I’m asking you to help me keep the request quality high. I also just upgraded the ......

Windows Phone Marketplace Requests
The Windows Phone Marketplace is ever growing (at the time of this post, there were around 60,000 apps), but sometimes the application you’re looking for is only available for Android or iOS. Sometimes this is because the vendor doesn't think the Windows Phone community is large enough to matter so they refuse to build (or even consider building) a Windows Phone version; other times it's because the vendor simply doesn't realize there is a demand for it. As consumers, the only thing we can do is ......
