At the Microsoft® Worldwide Partner Conference today, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner announced that Windows Server® 2008, Visual Studio® 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server™ 2008 will launch together at an event in Los Angeles on Feb. 27, 2008, kicking off hundreds of launch events around the world.

Also in the works is Beta 2 for Visual Studio 2008, which should be available as a free download in the next three weeks and will also support a go-live license.

One point of clarrification - we announced the launch date not the release date.

We typically release products several weeks/months before we "launch" them. You'll be able to buy the final release of VS 2008 and start using it before we hold the launch event.

Thanks,

Scott

Is there any broad estimate of when Visual Studio 2008 (non beta) would be release?

Cheers

Seems like calling this product 2008 now will make it feel old in about two months. That's the downsize to naming products with the year in them. Visual Studio 2005 sounds old. 2008 will sound old shortly after release. ;)

Let's aim for November 26 so I can have a good birthday, make sure some of those ASP.NET MVC bits are available soon too!

Microsoft always says release will be before the end of the year but end up being released in January. Hopefully this time they will be more accurate.

Hopefully at the same time, they will release Silverlight with no-click installation included.
