According to InfoWorld, Microsoft announced at it's first Business Intelligence Conference that the next version of Microsoft SQL Server, code-named Katmai, will be released sometime next year. No word yet on what features will and won't make it into the shipping version. Microsoft also announced at the conference was Microsoft's acquisition of SoftArtisans' OfficeWriter product, which allows users to author reports in Word and Excel.
