XBOX 360 Repair Saga - Part 2 - The CSR That Stole Christmas

I called Microsoft's repair center to check up on the status of my repair.  The rep told me it was still being processed because they did not receive the XBOX until the 16th.  I told her that seemed odd because I sent it 3-day UPS the previous Saturday, the 8th.  She told me it was a shipping issue and UPS was probably backed up because of the holidays.

So at that point I realized we are not getting back our XBOX before Christmas.

I was double checking the timeline to find out how long this process had been so far.  When I found the UPS tracking number.  They delivered the package back to the repair center on Thursday the 13th.  The rep either lied to me or didn't know what she was reading.  It sat in their hands for 3 days before they even recorded it in their system.  If that's how long it takes to process it, don't lie about it.  My first clue should have been that UPS doesn't deliver on Sunday, but stupid me didn't look at the day, I only did the date math.

  1. Called Microsoft Repair Center on Sunday, December 2nd.
  2. Received repair mailing box on Friday, December 7th.
  3. Dropped off the XBOX at UPS on Saturday, December 8th.
  4. UPS delivered the XBOX to Microsoft on Thursday, December 13th.
  5. Repair center record's delivery on Saturday, 15th.

So now its sitting someone waiting for someone to verify that its broken and send me another fixed one.

Right now it looks like we will be at around 4 weeks turn around time unless the repair center ships one out today or expedites the package this week.

The worse part is watching my son check the front door every day in hopes that the XBOX 360 is back before Christmas.  Each day he gets a little more worried and a little more sad when there is no note on the front door.

Here is a tip for Microsoft on shipping:

While standing in line at UPS the person behind the counter recognized the 360 box from 15 feet away.  She asked XBOX?  and waved me to the front.  She told me they send a lot of these back.

Microsoft, keep extra shipping boxes at UPS!  That would cut down the repair cycle by a week.

Hey, where do you live? I would be more than happy to overnight my 360 so you can borrow it. I would hate to see a kid's Christmas ruined because of a broken Xbox 360, and I honestly don't play mine all that much. Send me an e-mail, I'd love to help out.

Wow Justin! That is awesome! But it's not necessary. We decided to purchase an additional 360. We have been contemplating getting a second one so we can watch HD-DVD movies we get from Netflix on more than the one TV. We'll give it to the kid's on Christmas eve so their entire night isn't ruined in fear of what will be in the morning :)

You get my vote for GWB reader of the year award!

Thanks again.

No problem, glad you got it all worked out. I just know that I had to mail my 360 in once and it took forever to get it back.
