Scott Kuhl Warning: I may have no idea what I am talking about!
It's time for another complaint post.  Yippee!!

First, let me say that the Vongo service itself really isn't bad.  I wish it worked with the Zune but it doesn't.  The only reason I am canceling is because the client doesn't work for me.  I may join again if they fix it.

I just upgraded to the latest version of the Vongo software and it doesn't run on 64 bit Vista.  Not a big surprise but the old client did.  I can't find a way to downgrade, but it wouldn't matter much because this looks like a mandatory upgrade so eventually it will time out.

I went out to Vongo's site to cancel my account and guess what.  You can't do it on the web site.  You have to load the client which I can't do.  And there is no simple way to contact customer support.  You need to go into their help assistant and play a modern version of Zork to get them to talk to you.

"You are facing west, there is a wall ahead of you."

"Please cancel my account."

"You can't pick that up at this time."

"CANCEL"

"Do you want to download Cancel starring Butthole Magoo?"

Okay, so it's not that bad but you get my point.  Just put a cancel option on the website or at least an e-mail address.  Don't make my only option an automated assistant.

So I finally got Zorko to get me into "ask a billing question" and I find yet another helpful feature.  They automatically correct the spelling of my last name from Kuhl to cool.  Great, thanks guys.

Here's hoping someone contacts me so I can cancel this thing.  Otherwise I guess I'll need to install the software on another machine somewhere just to cancel it and uninstall it. Posted on Friday, October 26, 2007 3:32 AM Rants | Back to top

Yea I spoke with customer service about this issue: Even though it says on the website that 64 bit processors are supported, they decided to drop support of all 64 bit operating systems since their servers are no longer 64 bit.... Very strange marketing move since more and more Vista users are going for the 64 bit version.

Thanks to their stupid IT department I no longer have a movie download service... idiots.

Oh yea and there are NO PLANS to switch back to allowing 64 bit os's

Same deal for me, I run Vista Ultimate 64 bit and was pissed to find that not only did the client stop working after the recent upgrade but that I couldn't cancel the membership online. I googled for a while to find the customer service number of 1.877.VONGO21 where I was able to get it cancelled on a Sunday afternoon in just a few minutes. The software was always locking up on previous versions and movies would sometimes magically dissapear so they never really worked out the bugs to begin with; I doubt I
'll be coming back even if they support my OS someday.

Thanks "canibalveggie" that number worked great! It's Sunday afternoon and I also cancelled in only a few minutes, and with a 10.00 refund! Can U Believe?!?!?! After 3 months of charges, and not one successful download! The operator tried to keep my last payment which she said was a "settlement" on November 17, but I threw a hissy fit, and after verifying that I have never downloaded one movie, she refumded me. Yah. So thanks!

The number to cancel is 877-VONGO21 call on a Sunday afternoon

for those interested, I was just told by Vongo that a 64bit version would be available Nov 30 2007. And for vista users you should download from my.vongo.com and for xp www.vongo.com

I hope this helps!

I have news for all you people with Vista who say Vongo doesn't run on it.....it doesn't run on my XP Professional either! I had no trouble before this so-called "upgrade" - now its glitchy - takes forever to load and stops dead while i watch the Star Channel. After two years with them, I've had it - ready to pull the plug on this dud! I supposed they upgraded so that it would run on Vista but I see I was wrong. Its just a bad bad upgrade for everyone!

It is sad that a mandatory upgrade, Vongo has forced upon its customers, has left the 64-bit Vista customers out in the cold. With all of the reports from PCMag and other publisher's reporting that games and Divx movies being programmed for 64 bit operating systems with better performance, this is a step back in the wrong direction.

Most processors sold today are 64-bit capable and we are expected to stay with 32-bit operating systems? I don't think so.

64-bit drivers are available for all of our devices and peripherals. Since Vista 64 runs so well, it's a shame to leave its user's out in the cold.

Shame on you, Vongo. What were you thinking?

Thank you so much for the information. I never used the service but could not find where to cancel. My feeling is that if an online service does not make it easy to cancel, the user should view this as a red flag. I'll be more cautious next time. However, without the phone information posted here, I would not have been able to cancel.

THANK YOU!!!!

It still dont work...... Just got htis back from Vongo....

Dear Dan,

Thank you for contacting Vongo. Let me assist you with your concern.

I do apologize for the inconvenience that you are having with the Vongo service. You mentioned here that you are running 64-bit computer. Because of this, Vongo will not work on it as the current application of Vongo will only work with 32-bit and 86-bit system type. (You can check this by typing "msinfo32" in the Run box or search box on the start menu.) Rest assured though that our technicians are currently working on this matter and we hope that with the future version of Vongo, we will be able to support 64-bit computers again.

----------

Luckily I canceled months ago when things began to run like crap..... i tried again last night thinking they go things straightened out... What a mistake, the damn thing is worse than ever.

im tired of Vongo and if they do eventualy get ot working, they can still kiss my ass.

Julie, that is not true, i have been dealing with Vongo now for a week on this situation. Here si there last email to me.

Dear Dan,

Thank you for contacting Vongo. Let me assist you with this.
-----------------------------

I'm afraid we do not have an exact time frame yet on when the Vongo will be compatible with the 64-bit computers. What I can do for you is I will be taking note of your email address and I will send you an email once we support the 64-bit computers.

We really thank you for your interest with the Vongo service.

Please do not hesitate to email us again or contact us for further inquiries. You can reach us at 1-877-866-4621 from 8AM - 12MN EST, 7 days a week.

Thank you for choosing Vongo.

Sincerely,

April

-------------------

Here is the email prior to the above...

Dear Dan,

Thank you for contacting Vongo. Let me assist you further.

With your concern, I'm afraid there is no way to get older versions of Vongo anymore. Rest assured though that our higher management are working real hard to make Vongo compatible with 64-bit computers again. We hope to release that version by the end of the year or early next year.

We hope that once Vongo is again compatible with your computer, you will get the service back again. We look forward into having you as our customer.

Should you have any questions or require further assistance, you may call us at 1-877-866-4621. We are open from 8AM until 12MN EST, 7 days a week and one of our customer care agents will gladly assist you with any of your concerns.

Thank you for choosing Vongo.

Sincerely,

Scott, based on your comment, I tried again. Still nothing. Starztray crashes, Vongo crashes, it simply doesn't work. Those emails from above are from 3 days ago. Vongo knows there is an issue, and hopefully as they say, by years end or early next year there will be a fix for this on 64 bit systems.

Until then, Vongo does not support 64 bit systems as they once did. I have proved this on my machine thus far, and too further state its not just my issue, we have tech support stating the same thing.

It sound like the program works on 64-bit systems but there are still bugs and they officially won't support it because of that.

I guess the only thing you can do is try and install it and cross your fingers.

It's true. And, if you were a current Vongo Vista 64 bit user, who cancelled because Vongo's upgrade left you out in the cold with no Vongo service, whatsoever, they are now providing a three month free offer for Vista 64 and XP 64 bit users to come back!.

Enjoy!!! VONGO 64!!!!

I will advise anyone who is thinking about downloading this failure to resist now!!! Even on vista 32 it doesn't work. I signed up about a week and have not washed one movie. I can't even go pass the device name. I called Vongo and they promised to have a tech get back to me within 3 days. I still have not heard from any tech. Worst of all, my acount has a $10.00 hold on it during a 14 day free trial and I have not been able to download any movie. I will cancel today.!!!!!!

Dan,
After looking at your screen cap, I think you have a DRM problem not a 64-bit problem. I would try the following (if you are still interested in a solution):
1. Run Windows Media Player (WMP) past the new setup wizard, if you have not already
2. Close WMP
3. Go to the Microsoft Windows site and individualize your player, try one or both of these from an IE browser -
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/crlupdate/en/crlupdate.html
4. Reboot
5. Install and/or Run Vongo again
Good Luck

I think your DRM is half way there. Did one of the URLs in my previous post give a success message?
Try this...

If prompted
Username = VongoDrmTest
Password = password

Dan is up and running and here is what we did. He had some kind of problem with his Windows DRM folder and had to delete it and recreate it. This is a Windows system folder and how/why it becomes unusable is unclear. It is always a good idea to create a backup of the folder first in case you have some problem during the steps.
**** If you have subscription Music or movie services that use Windows Media Player DRM (Yahoo Music), this will cause the movies/music to become unplayable without relicensing. Some of these sites allow for relicensing with the a button in the application and some will require you to re-download the titles.****
To Remove and recreate your DRM files IN Vista (32 or 64-bit) do the following:
1. Right click on the Vongo in the system tray and exit.
2. Make sure you have Windows Media Player closed.
3. Open a Windows Explorer window
4. Organize > Folder and Search Options > View Tab
a. Select “Show hidden files and folders” radio button
b. Uncheck “Hide protected operating system files”
5. Navigate to c:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Windows\DRM (in XP this folder is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\DRM)
a. Delete the contents of the folder (not the folder itself).
b If the folder contents will not allow you to delete, restart your computer in Safe Mode (hit F8 while restarting your system).
6. Restart your computer.
7. Run Vongo
8. Download a Movie
9. If the title does not download, try one more.

I error messages now and they all say something about starztray has encountered a problem and needs to close I am not a computer literate person and I am just lost. I finally found a phone number for these guys which I am constantly losing and can't find now. They said they had to get a tech to call me back in 48 hours. I have not received such a call to my knowledge and I can't view anything. Uninstalling and re installing doesn't work. Geez... Maybe it has to do with the fact that I accepted ie 7. I am suddenly getting websites popping up out of no where. I am almost to tired of computers to want to bother with them.
