What's Wrong With Apples?

"They're just not real computers," the PFY says. "They're the piano accordion of the computing world, entertaining, but not made for professionals."

"Our Graphics people..."

"Yeah, but they're not professionals. They'd be just as happy with crayons and finger paints!"

September Release of AJAX Control Toolkit

The September release of the ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit is now available for download.  Looks like this one only contains bug fixes.  No new controls that I can see.

Windows Live Pricing
Something I noticed in the InfoWeek article from the previous post that I hadn't seen before was pricing for high volume sites: $0.25 / year / unique user for sites that have more than 1 million unique users per month. Or $250,000 per year minimum. It doesn't say anything about traffic less than that. But I have seen limits posted of 25,000 calls per day. After that you need an agreement with Microsoft. Does anyone have any pricing information below the million unique users mark but above the 25,000 ......

Windows Live Tools for Visual Studio

Microsoft is releasing a Windows Live toolkit for Visual Studio into beta in the next couple of months.  Think it will help adoption?

Push Content Coming to Zune?
The Zune rumors and speculation is starting up again. Ars Technica has discovered a patent filed by Microsoft that will push content directly to your Zune based on your personal preferences and playlists. This sort of reminds me of the Tivo Suggestions feature. The patent also discusses the ability to subscribe to other peoples playlists. That would make it much easier for my wife and I to decide which Zune to use. Right now she has a playlist setup on my Zune so she doesn't have to listen to "all ......

Apple FanBoys Are Ready to Revolt
From Customers Ask: Is Apple Going Rotten? Five big complaints are stirring up against the "Golden God's" great product line. Of course the $200 iPhone price drop. Video accessories no longer work on the new models. You have to re-purchase all your games. Touch screen is flawed, and they knew it. Pay a second time for ring-tones. But over the past two weeks, Apple's fans have been grumbling that the company they knew and loved is transforming into another Microsoft, making short-sighted, anti-consumer ......

Zune on Woot! Again
This time it's only $129.  But only in white again.  I guess they didn't sell out last time.  This isn't looking good for Zune.  I hope Microsoft comes up with something good for the next version.

Microsoft vs. Apple - Bad Commercial Edition (VIDEO)
Welcome to round 4,620 of Microsoft vs. Apple. This time we will be comparing bad commercials to see who had the absolute worst. First up - Geek vs Business executive. The geeks will be representing Microsoft, the business executives will be representing Apple. Warning: Apple is cheating in this one by hiring Kevin Costner. (Watch how he uses a mouse!) Now let's see who has consumed more drugs! Apple has chosen pot, Microsoft has chosen speed. Who's the winner of worst commercial. Comment lines are ......

Zune 2 - October 16th Launch
ZuneScene says it's confirmed, but I would still put it at the rumor stage until there is an official announcement. There is a photo of the actual devices, with not much of a change. Just some flash versions and a larger hard drive. Also a cliam that the video display is awesome. No details about software changes yet. Details and pictures here: http://www.zunescene.com/zu... ......

Karaoke Elvis
Saturday night Kendra and I stopped in this little wing place and were treated to karaoke night. One of the customers was in full on Elvis gear. Big hair, glasses, large belt buckle, but no jump suit. His daughter performed first and her name was actually Lisa Marie. This guy is way into Elvis. When it came his turn to sing, he made an entrance from the bathroom like it was backstage and was carrying a guitar. He never used the guitar at all, not even pretending. In fact, he didn't move at all while ......

Car Sales Elvis
A few years ago my wife and I were buying a car. You know that point where you are out in the lot looking at cars and you just know somewhere there is a sales guy waiting to pounce? Well, imagine when you finally see that guy he looks just like young Elvis. That's what happen to us, and Kendra almost lost it. Turns out he is actually an Elvis impersonator by night. I don't know if this helps him sell cars, but I certainly remembered him. And we did end up buying a car from him. Fast forward a couple ......

Windows Live x64 Update - Microsoft Support
Hello Scott, Thank you for writing to Windows Live Beta Technical Support. My name is Tom and I will be addressing your concerns with installing Windows Live Writer on a 64 Bit System. I have contacted the product team about this issue and they have provided the following response: We are working diligently on providing Vista x64-bit support. As stated in the release notes we are not supporting any 64-bit installations for this beta release, but this has always been in our plans for the final release. ......

Michael Robertson vs Microsoft - Take 2
Michael Robertson will not give up his fight against Microsoft. Remember back when he took on Windows by creating a more "Windows friendly" version of Linux called Lindows, got sued, and changed the name to Linspire? Well, now he is taking them on with an entirely web based OS. And I guess there must be a really attractive lawyer on the Microsoft team he is just dying to see again, because he is calling it ajaxWindows. Microsoft must be his ultimate target. This is from Michael's Minute announcement: ......

New Windows Live Installer Doesn't Work on Vista x64
I just rebuilt one of my machines to run the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. When I tried to install Live Writer I needed to use the new single installer package released last week. Well, it doesn't work on x64. I sent an e-mail to Microsoft, and they said a lot of people have reported the problem and they are working on it. They gave me a work around but it just launched the same installer with different options, so it crapped out too. The odd thing is, all the individual packages should work on ......

Steve Jobs - The Puppet Master
Cringely has the best summation of this week's iPhone fiasco I have seen yet. It wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t a thoughtless mistake. It was a calculated and tightly scripted exercise in marketing and ego gratification. So why did he do it? Why did he cut the price? I have no inside information here, but it seems pretty obvious to me: Apple introduced the iPhone at $599 to milk the early adopters and somewhat limit demand then dropped the price to $399 (the REAL price) to stimulate demand now that ......

Absolutely!  But at this point you could probably make an argument that Freddy or Jason would make a better president.

Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple, Apple
My RSS reader is filled with tons of Apple news which could easily be summed up. Ringtone robbery, more Shuffles, fat Nano, still just an iPod, iPhone - phone - storage space, FU early adopters, and iTunes everywhere. Oh yeah, and Zune, I'm still over here ......
