What Happened to Vista DreamScene?
Microsoft has an Ultimate Extra listed on their site called DreamScene that allows you to use video as your desktop. It was demoed at CES, promised at the consumer launch, and it is listed as a current extra on Microsoft's site: http://www.microsoft.com/wi... But it doesn't show up on my available Extras list. Anyone know what the status of this feature is? UPDATE 02/05/2007: Windows Ultimate Blog Microsoft is finalizing testing of Windows DreamScene ......

Windows Vista - It Does Matter (a little)
Like the OS, hate the OS, love the OS and you're upgrading today? Well, it only really matters a little. The vast majority of consumers only upgrade to a new operating system when they buy a new computer. So what Microsoft needs to do is win them over at the purchase point. It's not going to come down to does Vista have this specific feature or not. It's going to come down to one of two things. First, maybe knowing Microsoft has a new OS will peek their interest into getting a new PC. If this happens, ......

Zune Scratches???
I use an Agent18 protective case for my Zune because I hate scratches. But the case itself gets scratched up very easily. I got into the case habit when I use to have an iPod, but I never needed one for my Creative Zen. So my question is, does anyone have problems with scratches on their Zune? Or can anyone recommend a better scratch proof case? I was thinking of trying the new Griffin case ......

Gizmodo's Zune Review After 3 Months
After prolonged use of the device, their opinion has improved. First off, we have to say that the subscription service is great. Actually listening to songs on the Zune has been fine as well. Even compared to the iPod at three months, the Zune keeps charge longer when not in use. It's only one large scratch instead of millions of tiny scratches like on the iPod, so we'll say that the Zune really is a bit more sturdy. Playing back video has also been great. There were a couple of negatives, such as ......

Block DoS Attacks in ASP.NET

Step 1 - Put C# file in App_Code directory.

Step 2 - Add httpModule to your web config.

That's it!

How it works:

This HttpModule monitors all requests and block requests coming from IP addresses that make many requests in a short period of time. After a while the attacking IP address gets released from blocking.

False Support Quotes
Years ago at my first tech job, my boss had me add a praise statement to our product literature that read like this: "I can't believe how easy it is" - John Somebody (I can't remember his name). This quote was taken way out of context. The actual quote was something like "I can't believe how easy it is to crash your software." I still feel dirty about that one. Luckily it never made it to print. In today's web world, it probably would have made it to the web site though. Much like this one.... A ......

Jobs: “Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.”

I've been using a plug-in for IE for about a month that saves YouTube and Google videos as Zune compatible Windows Media Video files in your video directory with a single click. Great iPhone Quote

It's clear that the press bandwagon, which had been parked at Google's headquarters, has now moved to Apple's front door. And like usual, it's so packed there's not much oxygen to power brains for clear thinking.
