Unsubscribing from Newsletters

Now I'm not stupid and I don't try to unsubscribe from newsletters I didn't request.

But, have you ever noticed, that even with legitimate newsletters the unsubscribe process is shady?  When you subscribe it usually takes about 5 seconds before you get a welcome e-mail and your first newsletter.  When you unsubscribe you get a message that you will be removed from the mailing list in 10 days or some other ridiculously long time frame.

# re: Unsubscribing from Newsletters

Or better yet, you get the removal confirmation email and a day later yet another newsletter lands in your mailbox.

This comes from websites not taking this feature seriously. Removal pages are hastily brought online to improve the website's spam rating and not as a real service to subscribers. That is why they are often buggy or slow to respond.

If we, the subscribers, don't complain loudly enough, nothing will be done. How about you make public all those websites that offer defunct unsubscribe features?

Cheers,
