Zune Music Royalties WTF?

Microsoft is going to give Universal $1 for every Zune they sell.  Why?

"We feel that there's a great deal of music that's [stored] on these devices that was never legitimately obtained," said Universal Music Group Chairman and CEO Doug Morris. "We wanted to get some sort of compensation for what we thought we're losing."

How in the hell is that Microsoft's problem?  Should Universal get $1 from BMW because you can play ripped CDs in it.  Our how about $10 for every baby born, because we know they're just going to steal some music some day.

"I feel that that music industry is causing me emotional distress.  I don't steal music.  I have an all-you-can eat rental subscription from Urge." said Scott Kuhl, one angry SOB.  "I want to get some sort of compensation for not stealing music."

This stuff just burns me up.

Agreed! But if this gets the Zune out the door with more music available for purchase, I will donate my $1 of the sale to them.
