Microsoft is leaving Java in the dust, but the company still has room to grow in the developer arena, a key executive said.

"Five years ago we had problems with J2EE [Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition]," Muglia said. However, "We've grown from having a quarter of the market to, now, 60 percent," he said.

"J2EE has run its course," Muglia said.
