Load Up Your Thumb Drive

The September 6th issue of PC Magazine has a very good article on loading up your USB Key with portable applications. I have several of these already, my favorites being Portable Firefox and RoboForm. With the rising popularity of the USB drives, portable apps could really explode soon.

Here is a quick list of what I use on my SanDisk Cruzer Micro:

• Ad-Aware - spyware scanner.
• AntiVir - anti-virus.
• CoolPlayer - media player.
• CruzerLock 2 - file encryption.
• FileZilla - standard and secure FTP.
• Foxit PDF - PDF reader and printer.
• Portable RoboForm and Firefox Plug-in - password storage.
• Portable Firefox - web surfing.
• Portable OpenOffice - document reading and editing.
• Trillian - instant messaging.
• VNC Viewer - remote access.

I also have the following loaded but have not had a reason to use them yet.

• Portable NVU - a web authoring tool similar to FrontPage.
• Portable Sunbird - calendaring system.
• Portable Thunderbird - e-mail.
• Windows CE Emulator - embedded operating system.
