Home Network Storage

Maxtor has released a new network drive that does not require a PC.  This makes it the first major hard drive manufacturer to target the home market with network storage.

Maxtor Shared Storage Plus

The Maxtor Shared Storage Plus comes in three sizes: 200GB - $300, 300GB - $400 and 500GB - $500.  If that's not enough storage, the unit also includes 2 USB ports so you can add additional drives.

The drives will contain a browser based interface for security and maintenance.  But that is not the only software included.  The drive is aiming to be the center of your digital media hub.  By including media-management software from Mediabolic, the drive will be able to stream photos, music and video to UPnP devices over a wireless network.

You can find the PDF Datasheet here.

# re: Home Network Storage

I installed one for a friend and it worked like a charm. I think I may have to get one of these to replace the Linksys NAS device I am currently trying to use.
