Scott Kuhl Warning: I may have no idea what I am talking about!

I have been using the Excentrics World free calendar control for years now on more than one project.  It is leaps and bounds better than the basic calendar control that shipped with ASP.NET.  Well, it seems the creator has been hired by Microsoft, and they have decided if he wants to keep his job he'll stop distributing the free controls.

How can a company shut down a project you created before you joined?  Oh, I'm sure they have the legal right, but what a great way to anger your development community.

He is currently trying to get approval from the ASP.NET group inside Microsoft to start these up again, and I hope this is only a problem of red tape in a giant company.  Had the developer released the controls under a license that allowed the users to re-distribute or modify such as the GPL, then this would not be a problem.
