Not sure why this is being blocked, must be the word Amazon or maybe the link? So I am posting my review here word for word and hope they unblock it.ReviewGot it yesterday for my anniversary as a gift and was loving it. Great size for a tablet, hardware performs well, screen is good, and it's priced very well. If you want a tablet to read and watch "some" video it's a good purchase, that would be even better if they had TV show and movie rentals like Amazon. It would have gotten 4 starts, but this ......
So yesterday I got the bad news that yet another XBOX 360 had failed us. This time is was the video port that went bad. This makes like 5 or 6 failed XBOXs, I’ve lost count. Those things are turds. There is no way I was having another one fixed because they’ll just send me a different turd edition that has been fixed that will probably break down again in 6 months. So I took everything I still had worth salvaging (controllers, hard drive, games, wireless) and traded them in. We use to be a 2 XBOX ......
My wife and I have been working on a new site for the past couple of weeks. This is our second project since we re-launched our home business. ReleaseWeek.com The site lists major new releases of movies and television on DVD and Blu-Ray, video games, music and books. All of this is put into a simple current week format. This is our first project released as part of the Microsoft WebsiteSpark program. We built everything in ASP.NET Web Forms 3.5. I’m working on a new article on how to create public ......

We love our Tivo HD. It's one of the many DVRs we have owned that actually works. If you don't like your DVR, it's time to upgrade. I ordered another one from Woot today for media sharing. Now I'll need to get some external SATA drives to hook up to them so I can have 4 tuners and 2TB of video storage going. And that doesn't include any of the videos sitting on our laptops or server. Addiction? What addiction? Hurry before they're all gone. Technorati Tags: woot, tivo ......

I hate that I need to adjust my speaker volume every single time I watch a web video or switch back and forth to music. Every embedded video seems to have it's own volume control that doesn't come close to comparing to anyone else's, if it even works. Does anyone know of a way to get Windows to auto volume level all sources so I can stop messing with the volume? Or am I just missing something obvious here? Here is a video of the new Zune interface. This one is a little more generic, showing off the hardware, accessories and the new marketplace. Source: http://www.iwantapinkzune.c... ......
I'm not going to rehash all the details, but the Zune 2 is on the way and all features are being backported to the first generation models. THANK YOU MICROSOFT! Personally my favorite features announced so far are podcast support and native support for h.264 and mpeg4 which is basically every podcast on the planet. (With the exception of you few losers using solely Quicktime MOV format.) I haven't seen any details on the user interface changes or the software changes. Hopefully video will be on equal ......
ZuneScene says it's confirmed, but I would still put it at the rumor stage until there is an official announcement. There is a photo of the actual devices, with not much of a change. Just some flash versions and a larger hard drive. Also a cliam that the video display is awesome. No details about software changes yet. Details and pictures here: http://www.zunescene.com/zu... ......
Before the Zune launched there was one of many rumors floating around about pricing. One of those was a $99 price point. Well, I think it's time to make that a reality. Microsoft says Zune sales are on target. But that target was not that impressive and it's time to start pushing hard. We need a Zune 2. We need podcast and better video support. But mostly we need users. The price drop on the HD-DVD drive on the XBOX has fueled those sales and that was on $20. Drop the retail price on the Zune by ......
I don't plan on buying a copy of Zune for Dummies because I doubt it has much value to someone who already knows how to get videos and podcasts on the device. The rest of the book looks like basic usage instructions. But I also realize I am not the target market for the book. One big problem I have always had when trying to suggest the Zune over the iPod to anyone is ease of use. iTunes is one nice, neat little package where you can get all of your content. If you can point and click and plug an ......
I bought my first PSP back at the launch. The lack of good titles for several months drove me to want to trade it in. My oldest son liked it, so I gave it to him for his birthday along with a couple of new games. A few months later he also got frustrated with the lack of titles so I bought it back off him so he could get a video iPod. Flash forward two years, my youngest son saved his money for months and used his end of year report card money along with some game trade-ins to buy a used one. The ......
Many people are picking sides in the console war. But not GameStop. They just want you to spend all your money on every system. Hey, at least they are honest. From yesterday's GameStop newsletter: Certain cultural phenomenon have often divided friends. Coke vs. Pepsi; Star Wars vs. Star Trek; Marvel vs. DC. Today, video games are the new battleground with a clear line drawn in the sand between the Nintendo Wii and PS3. Either system offers incredible gaming experiences, so take out a second mortgage ......
Zune 2.0 and a smaller flash based Zune will be sold this year. The hard drive version looks like the generation 1 Zune, but is thinner. It has a larger hard drive and still uses the doubleshot. The flash based player is video capable and he said the screen covers about 75% of the front, similar to the hard drive Zune. The flash player has Wi-Fi and also uses a double shot. Both devices have completed the design phase, although some last minute minor tweaks to the hardware will occur. Memory capacity ......
The research channel has a 3.5 hour video on designing .NET class libraries by Krzysztof Cwalina the program manager for the .NET Framework team. This class presents best practices for designing frameworks that are reusable object-oriented libraries. The guidelines are applicable to frameworks ranging in size and in their scale of reuse from large system frameworks to small components shared among several applications. They started as a small set of naming and design conventions, but have been enhanced, ......

It's been a while since I checked the state of add-ins for Windows Live Writer, and there are quite a few now. Some of the more interesting ones: Insert Video Insert a video from MSN SoapBox, Google Video, YouTube, MySpace Video, Yahoo! Video, muveeMix and now myvideo.de videos. Usage is easy, just click on the Insert Video link, then copy and paste the link into the text box. Alternatively, you can now just paste the video link into the blog entry and the plugin will do the rest. Now fully compatible ......

I made a tongue-in-cheek comment about why I don't switch to Mac OS X on a recent post to which Jeff Julian made a comment that got me thinking. What would it take to get you to switch to Apple? For me it would take a two-punch combo: Visual Studio for the Mac or an equally good development environment for Ruby on Rails. (I mostly do web development.) A music and video subscription model to iTunes. If I could get that, I would seriously consider trading in my laptop, Zune and Xbox for a MacBook, ......
Dear Microsoft, I understand that you are trying to go for a unified interface for the Zune just like iTunes. But would it kill you to add support for TV shows recorded by Windows Media Center so we don't have to do things like this? In the short term: Please add .dvr-ms support in the next minor Zune software update. It's not that hard and I'm not asking for anything special. Just have them show up under videos. In the long term: Please add a TV section to compliment Music, Videos, Podcasts (you ......

After prolonged use of the device, their opinion has improved. First off, we have to say that the subscription service is great. Actually listening to songs on the Zune has been fine as well. Even compared to the iPod at three months, the Zune keeps charge longer when not in use. It's only one large scratch instead of millions of tiny scratches like on the iPod, so we'll say that the Zune really is a bit more sturdy. Playing back video has also been great. There were a couple of negatives, such as ......
I've been using a plug-in for IE for about a month that saves YouTube and Google videos as Zune compatible Windows Media Video files in your video directory with a single click. It has a few bugs, sometimes videos do not save correctly, but it's a great add-on for archiving online videos and carrying them around on your Zune. Download YouTube Google Video downloader for Zune ......
The iPhone rumors are flying again. What I think Apple should do to save research and development costs is just leak rumors of their next product and see what shows up on the internet. The embedded video I have included for the iTalk looks really good. Now Apple can just go build it. Heck, they really don't even need to think of new ideas. Just listen to the rumors ......
Well it looks like Jeff is busy writing a book, so I'll have to take this on myself. Last weekend I went to EB Games to check out the Zune in person. The manager talked me into one I talked myself into one knowing that if I hated it, I could return it. My biggest concern was Podcasts, which the Zune software has no direct support for out of the box. Here is the solution. First you need some sort of podcast receiving software. I started to try Doppler since it had limited support with Windows Media ......
Okay, Jeff here is the deal. You write a post on how to setup your Zune to sync podcasts and I promise to run out and buy a Zune. Then I'll send an e-mail to anyone at Microsoft you want telling them that you personally made this happen, change the tag line of my blog to "Jeff Julian is the Zune God" until the end of the year, and plaster a Geeks With Blogs sticker on the window of my car. Here are the rules: The podcast software can be third party, but no more than $50 to purchase. The podcast software ......

I really want to want one of these. I think the device has potential. But it's missing some big things on day one.
This article describes how to use VLC, an open-source video player, to convert files to WMV format. I know Windows Media Encoder already does this, but the reviews claim VLC wins in both quality and speed.

KERA-TV in Dallas was the first PBS station to broadcast Monty Python's Flying Circus, and it was the Pythons' first stop in the US after the premier of Monty Python and the Holy Grail in Los Angeles in 1975. This interview footage first aired live on KERA that year, and hasn't been seen by the public since. It was discovered on an old reel that had been saved by an engineer, and as you can see, it cuts off after about 14 minutes... the engineer taped over the rest. It's a look at the group b
Weak. Not worth the hype. I was hoping for movie downloads and streaming video to a TV without buying a Mac.
The on-demand video service MovieBeam is back, and now they are promising movies the same day they are released to DVD.
Now that Disney has purchased Pixar, Steve is likely to end up on the Disney board. What I would like to see come out of this in the long run is a video iPod simplified and aimed at younger children. Add a section to the iTunes store aimed at music for kids, plus video content from Disney and I think you have a winner.
The Google Video Store is now online. I'm not impressed. The cuteness of Google is definitely wearing off. Google needs to improve it's new offerings.
I have read two things about the Google / AOL partnership that bothers me.
Recently my wife got a new Creative Zen Vision. No matter what she tried, it would not sync video. The computer we were using has had a lot of video software and codecs installed over time, plus we were already using it to sync a Creative Portable Media Center and a SmartPhone. She called Creative and they were no help. They actually told her to try someone else's software besides Creative.
It was time for a rebuild.
Now that Visual Studio 2005 has been released for a month, more books are starting to hit the shelves, training classes are popping up, and a lot of articles are (still) being written. Below is a roadmap I have laid out to bring experienced Visual Basic .NET programmers up to date. Visual Basic 6er's will probably be okay too.
