Microsoft stooping to a new low

I just read this posting about how Microsoft is stating that OSS violates no less than 235 patents. This perticularly chaps my ass for quite a few reasons.

First and foremost as Phil mentions in his posting, it seemed like recently Microsoft was trying to make an effort to meet OSS on neutral ground and figuring out how we could all work together. Codeplex is a good example of this. It seemed like Microsoft was in the shallow end of the swimming pool testing the water temperature. I guess this isn't the case.

Second, Why doesn't microsoft try a better way to "innovate" as the say so often, rather then just go the scumbag route and sue. They haven't sued yet, but if they are announcing this then they are probably planning on it.

Third, This is just going to further tarnish microsoft images in alot of peoples minds. When new technologies are arising (Apollo, Mono etc..) trying to bridge the gap between Microsoft, Mac and Linux, microsofts legal department is just going to start dealing lawsuits. If my workplace didn't so heavily use MS products, I would have moved to other development technologies a long time ago.

I have been fed up with MS's bull lately and this one just takes the cake. We don't know what portions of OSS is violating MS patents yet because they haven't announced it, but I guarantee it's something ridiculous.

Way to "innovate" Microsoft...if you beat 'em, sue 'em!
