Dam2Dam Bike Tour: Update 7

Great ride last night - unfortunately I think it will be my last training ride before Saturday "the big day" - that's okay - I'm as ready as I'll ever be. ;-)

Dam2Dam Bike Tour: Update 6

Same ride as last week - this week I was by myself. Felt great... well except for my saddle sores. I didn't feel those until I was in the shower after the ride... yeah TMI, eh?

Less than a week left until the big ride. I'm up to $900 in donations.

Dam2Dam Bike Tour: Update 5

Awesome ride today. I want to try to stress how big of a deal this ride was to me. Typically I throw my bike into/onto a vehicle to get down into and back out of the valley. Today I rode up the hill from the valley back to my house. That was a huge deal for me. It is not nearly L'Alpe D'Huez (roughly 8.5 miles, 3650 vertical feet) but our little hill (roughly 3/4 mile, 350 vertical feet) has been a huge psychological barrier for me. Yes you serious cyclists will laugh at the piddly little gain - but I did it and I felt pretty good doing it! The best part is that I don't have to shove my bike in the car any more! I can ride down into the valley, get on the bike trails and ride back home! Yeah, baby!

From now on I'm only going to provide the info and link to the MotionBased site... basically MotionBased rocks and I just like it so much better than my cobbled-together solution.

I can really use your help. I have set a personal goal to raise $2000 for the Mike Utley Foundation and I don't have much time to meet that goal. Donations are fully tax deductible, of course.

You can donate online with a credit/debit card at: http://www.mikeutley.org/shop/product.esiml?PID=4 - please make sure to put my name Steve Bargelt, in the "Rider's Name" field! If you would prefer to write a check please contact me via the contact form on this site, enter your correct email address and I will respond with details of how to get the check to me.

Dam2Dam Bike Tour: Update 4

Hit the road last night. Did about 22 miles. It was a fun ride but damn it was hard to get out of the house. I'm sure we all have these experiences from time-to-time. I could not find my GPS, I could not find batteries for the GPS, I could not find my biking shoes, then the sandals I wear in the car before and after the ride, then my socks. I was a total mess. Subconsciously I think that I wanted to avoid the workout last night. I could have easily said - "It is getting too late, it is cold and looks like rain... I'll skip it tonight." Luckily I did not because I needed the training and I had a great ride. It hurt... but it was fun!

On the donation side - I'm happy to report that I'm up to $800. Still a big amount to raise - but I'm confident I can do it.

Here are the details on my site and at motionbased.com:

Dam2Dam Bike Tour: Update 3

I'm up to $750 in donations as of today! Thanks again to my many friends and family members for your generous donations.

I hit the road Tuesday and managed to complete just over 30 miles. I felt great until about mile 25 where I just kind of ran out of gas. I also have a tooth that is bothering me and it started throbbing at about mile 20. Here is a link to that ride.

After a practically sleepless Tuesday night (because of my tooth) and a trip to the dentist Wednesday afternoon I rode 14 miles - again on the road but with my mountain bike so the average speed is a bit low... met Brandon at the bridge and rode home with him (thanks for the beer, B!). Here is a link to that ride on my site. Then we hit the weights (pretty lightly).

I've also started using MotionBased - here is Wednesday's ride there (click the pics to see more detail):
