Microsoft's Download Center new Beta uses Silverlight

I was very pleasantly surprised when I got this popup while looking for some Vista Power Tools.  Low and behold, it does actually use it, however I didn't see anything impressive about their implementation.  You can access the beta by using the following URL.

Yes and it is extremely slow. I wonder whether it is truly necessary to use Silverlight for something like the Microsoft Download Center.

Yeah, the site looks cool and all that. Did you view source? Almost 111 files are being requested for the homepage. Hope this changes in the future! It's Beta so it's all cool.

I'm actually betting when it goes live it will allow you to queue files for download. But as it stands, the "upgrade" seems useless. I'm betting the future Outlook via Web will be a better feature of Silverlight.
